Lambs to the slaughter
Re: Lambs to the slaughter
Here's "honorary US player" Green knocking the ball in for a GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! With keeping like that I'm confident England can go all the way!

Hey, truce everybody! Right now we're both behind Slovenia.
I'm asking you because you're an educated sort of swine. John LeCarre

Ouch. Good point there MikeS.
I just took look at the grid and the only possible shot at a US-England re-match would be in the Final. What are the chances ?
On a lighter note, also checked out the roster for the Slovs. Boy do they have some names on that team!

Two. 1991 and 1999. The image of Brandi Chastain taking her shirt off after winning the shootout is still fresh in my mind. And I think we could have won the last one if the coach hadn't pulled Hope Solo.SteveShaw wrote:Anyway, how many World Cups has the US won? We've won one...

Ouch! I am ashamed I had forgotten and those were great games, I doubt England even had a team to qualify.chas wrote:Two. 1991 and 1999. Are we still talking sport?
"Last night, among his fellow roughs,
He jested, quaff'd and swore."
They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the life that'll never, never die.
I'll live in you if you'll live in me -
I am the lord of the dance, said he!
He jested, quaff'd and swore."

I'm just relieved to find that we're not talking about . . . well, what the thread title says.

It was a great slaughtering to watch yesterday
But the Aussies were no lambs
Beautiful football to watch, and I normally don't watch football

What's the old saying, you can't have slaughter without "laughter".
Wait, no, never mind.

Re: Lambs to the slaughter
Certainly the Germans were good, but the Socceroos were lamentable, so I wouldn't read too much into it just yet. We're getting quite a lot of negative football from weaker teams in the group stage, most of them settling for scrappy draws (US included). The last 16 will be far more interesting.hans wrote:It was a great slaughtering to watch yesterday

Re: Lambs to the slaughter
I appreciate the appreciation, but I must demur. 'Vuvuzela' is without a doubt the word of the year, and a tremendous addition to the lexicon it is certain to be. If Johnny Carson was still on the air, he'd have been able to kill off nearly three minutes of monologue time just repeating 'vuvuzela' and making Johnny Carson face.SteveShaw wrote:I nominate this for the title of best word I've heard all year.s1m0n wrote: autohumiliate

There is something of a vaguely disconcerting sexual allusion in 'vuvuzela' that I can't quite put my finger on...

All yours, Steve. I'm not touching it.

A dozen years of music classes and four years at the conservatory, and all they want you to do is pose in a golden frock..
And did you notice that the two on the left have their petticoats showing?
