Patrick Swayze, RIP

I think a lot of folks didn't realize what a talented fellow Patrick S was,
cause he was such a hunk. For instance, he was a professional ballet
dancer before he became an actor.

Well, that sucks. He was great in "To Wong Foo".
Definitely an underappreciated actor. Stupid cancer.

Agree with the respectful sentiments. I hope it will be okay, though if I paste in this FB status, currently posted by
one of my daughter's friends. It made me laugh:

"i hope kanye doesn't show up to patrick swayze's funeral. " i'll let you get back to your funeral in a minute...but michael jackson had the best death of the year. just sayinnn ".

Wow. Genius. Taylor Swift will have to wait
'till it's Beyonce's turn to restart her eulogy.

Two films that people may not always think of:

Point Break, where he plays a surfer leader of a team of bank robbers.
Swayze was wonderful. Kathryn Bigelow directed; she just
did The Hurt Locker. Great action director.

Red Dawn, which depicts a partial soviet occupation of the USA (a side show in a Soviet
War with China). A bunch of Colorado high school students and their older siblings escape
into the mountains. The movie (which actually was psychologically
compelling) chronicles their evolution into a guerilla group.
Swayze was fine as their leader. The film ends in a sort of
tragedy.

I just saw a horrible movie that he was in a couple of days ago, it is called George and the Dragon. We laughed and laughed at Swayze's part, it was so funny. I can't believe he passed right after we saw it. Ghost was probably my favorite though.

Yeah, Wolverines. That film was ridiculed as some sort of crazy anti-communist film,
but reviewers began to realize that it was something else. The Soviets were
portrayed as real people, there are sympathetic characters on their side,
and they can't take all of the USA, in fact.
The dynamic within the group of young adults as it shifts from a bunch of terrified
kids (and part of a football team) into a guerrilla group
was entirely believable. Jennifer Gray was in it, too.
In one scene she's wounded in action and they can't take her
with them and she begs Swayze to shoot her.
He puts his pistol to her head but he can't do it. So she asks him for a hand grenade, she
pulls the pin and clutches it in her hand so it
won't detonate and waits, this dying girl in a down parka
lying in the falling snow,
for the Soviets to find her.

Swayze had more sensitivity and nuance than one expected
in so physical an actor.

Don't worry, it was a joke to Swayze as well. The bloopers on it were hilarious. Patrick made that movie. I didn't make fun of him after he died, I just thought it was weird that I saw one of his movies the day before he passed. And if a member of my family made a sh*t film, I would hope to be in it and have a fun time goofing around like Swayze did.

I just let my seven year old girl watch "ghost" and told her that if she wasn't a good girl that the same thing would happen to her as happened to the bad people in the film. I think I scared her into being good for the rest of her life.

Do you think that was good parenting ?

I used to tell my children that if they didn't behave, they'd have to live with a Republican family. They're all adults now and still have nightmares.
