Michael Jackson

Post by Dale »

What a sad thing. The deathwatch is all over television, awaiting announcement.

You look at the pictures of that incredibly talented and nice-looking kid and then put it up against what happened to him. I'm not sure he ever had a chance for a normal life.

Have you heard anything new? At CNN, all they're saying is that he was rushed to the hospital.

I hate to admit that my first thought on seeing that was "what is he trying to do...upstage Farrah Fawcett?"

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

I was jealous of him when I was a kid. I wish his family would get the help they need. And if he is still with us, him too.

Regardless of the last 10 years or so of his career and personal life, most of his music was awesome.

When I worked as christmas staff in shops I longed for the time that the christmas CDs would get round to playing Jackson Five songs. They lifted my whole day and made my dance around the shop and sing along. Brilliant.

I think his life was pretty sad. All that talent....but what a life.... maybe he's happy now..

I'll have to admit that when I heard it , I was not surprised.

Somebody has to say it so I will. He was a very unpleasant and manipulative man who was, all in all, a bit of a waste of space. So carry on eulogising if you will.
"Last night, among his fellow roughs,
He jested, quaff'd and swore."

They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the life that'll never, never die.
I'll live in you if you'll live in me -
I am the lord of the dance, said he!

He was more infamous than famous. Plenty of money and fame but little guidance in using it.

It makes the birdies swoon
It sends them to the moon

He was, in his time, a brilliant musician and dancer, and an electrifying performer. There's little doubt, I think, that something was also seriously wrong with him...something that became increasingly obvious as he got older. But he wasn't always that way.

I prefer to remember him as the man who was incredibly kind to Ryan White at a time when people with AIDS were treated as if they were filth. That's the side of Michael Jackson that the world doesn't seem to remember. It's so much easier to focus on his descent into mental illness. But there was, deep in that troubled, talented soul, a person of genuine kindness...and if I were he, that's how I'd want to be remembered.
