Happy Birthday Cyndi Lauper!

Post by Jack »

Ms. Lauper plays the dulcimer and has had pennywhistle featured on her albums before.

I knew about the dulcimer, but I missed
the whistles. Do you know any of her
songs off the top of your head that
feature whistle? I'd like to find 'em.

I always enjoy remembering back in the
80's when Madonna first came on the
scene (as a brunette, at the time).
People asked, "When did Cyndi Lauper
dye her hair?" What a difference a decade
made!

She's so unusual. What do you suppose she wants?

Equal rights for gay people, I guess. That's all she ever talks about. :P

Oh, and she plays it herself. Neat!
Thanks. I'll check that out.

I know she plays whistle in other places, too, but I can't remember where right off the top of my head. She plays all kinds of instruments herself, as well as sings.

I liked her when she first came out and she was a well needed breath of fresh air. One of the songs that I've been trying to figure out on the whistle for the last couple of months, when I came remember is True Colors. I saw her play the dulcimer on TV not to long ago. How nice that Cyndi is no longer considered shocking.

Yeah, I think most people consider her a worn out old...you-know-what...these days, but she's still fun to look at and listen to.

Yup.
I sing the birdie tune

It sends them to the moon

was at Kentucky Music Week all the past week.

One of our afternoon activities was a tribute to David Schnaufer. David was a teacher and friend of Cyndi's, and she sings "Twilight Eyes" on his "Delcimore" album. He plays TN Music Box on her Christmas album.

I wish I had seen them together. I just can't imagine David in his Amish clothing, with his baritone, laid back, Texas drawl, and Cyndi with her orange spiked hair.

A voice like that just has to sing. Did you notice the dulcimer has a built in amplifier? Traditionalists be rollin over in their hand dug graves.

mute - if you think people get upset when talking about ITM, you should read the threads on what is "traditional" when it comes to dulcimers!!

Of course, this is coming from me, the person that plays a chromatic, bass dulcimer! :D
