Decisions, decisions

Post by cowtime »

OK, I can't decide so I need some help...

Which dress/decade to make for myself for my niece's wedding in July-2 pm in the afternoon

this 20s -
http://www.folkwear.com/237.html

I've made the tango version, light one in the picture-won't do for early afternoon, but am considering the view with the straight hem and no "streamers" on the back)
The plus to this is I have the pattern and the shoes for this one.

or
one of these two 30s-

The plus for these is it would be something completely different

I truly can't decide.
All I know is that I can't wear a normal dress.
It just wouldn't be me.

I'm no help. I went to a niece's wedding last weekend. I wore a suit. The wedding was nice. The kids were very sharp dressers. My suit was grey and old. So was I. I'm no help.

Yes you can be. Which do you like the best?

I too am old and grey, and my normal method would be to drag some old thing out of the closet, but I like to make really old clothes to wear when the occasion arises. It's either that or my 84 year old mom will force me to buy a dress which I refuse to do.

Ahhhh, my favorite decade- plus the stuff is very comfortable since it requires no special "underpinnings".

Good , one vote for 20s!

They're all pretty cool, but I think I like the first 30's one the best. Especially with the hat!

I prefer #2303. I've never thought that most flapper outfits are either attractive or (for most women) flattering. We're conditioned to think of them as glamourous because it was a high-glam era and because the fabric is frequently something like a shiny satin silk.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Oooooo! I LOVE the first one!!! You'd look very chic in that one. But I also really liked the first one from the '30s. I think it's the hat. I love that hat.

I would go to a wedding in Scarlett O'Hara's "Barbecue" dress and hat, if I could. But that's just me ;)

Hmmm.... more opinions seem to be leaning towards the first thirties dress.....

I would have to have the hat, I think.

Marcel waves may be in order too..... seriously..

Izz, you really are going to have to get a Scarlet ensemble.

SIGH! Yeah, I know. But even if I could sew, think of how MUCH fabric it would take to make that darn dress. But I want one. I really, really do. [/covet] ;)

#1. I liked the 20's dress the best but it makes anyone look like they have hip or diaper issues.

#2. 1797. This would look sleek.

#3. 2303. The fabric would have to make this dress look like more than a day dress.

Both the thirties ones are great! I think I prefer the second one. I'm not really that fond of the twenties one, i'm afraid.

edit- Oh, look... I'm in with the weirdos, Davey and Em! Yay!
