This is what I usually have with me (but not the USMC version). A Camillus Camp Knife. Before that I carried a folder like it.

They tend to know how to use them too. Don't ask...djm wrote:Wow! That's a good thing to know in advance.cowtime wrote:All self respecting mountain gals have a knife.

Anyway, here's what I carry:

This is in fact the original Swiss Army Soldier knife, I still have mine in my desk.gonzo914 wrote:I've carried this thing -- Swiss Army Soldier model
But usually I keep others from Wenger or Victorinox (both already named) with me.
At least these knifes are still really made in Switzerland. There are many other companies which transferred their productions to china or other "cheap countries" and still have their products branded with "Made in Switzerland".
This was our motto for the local Fasnacht 2005: "Swiss made in China":
By the way, there was an issue here about the swiss cross on the knifes of Wenger and Victorinox this year. Since these are official national emblems it is not allowed to place them on products. Both companies do that already for over one hundred years and it would have been weird to forbid it now. Fortunatly the authority has decided to make an exception on that.

- Tell us something.: I'm just updating my profile. Actually came on to change my signature, which is out of date. I have no idea what 100 characters looks like. Is this enough perhaps?

A Paul pocket knife is mine - picked it up at a gig in Butte a couple of years back and am very fond of it - it is very small 1 3/4" blade and has an ingenious locking mechanism - you squeeze its hinge and it unlocks and you can snap it open then with the one hand holding it - it locks both in and out. quite expensive it was and a real treat for myself as a souvenir from Butte (they've a fantastic old knife shop run by a lady and her cat), so I'm desperate not to forget it and have to hand it over at the airport.
