I'm sorry Guru. That wasn't how I meant it. Just remarking that while the error may not be caused by the browser, it certainly does seem to make a difference which browser you use. I'm not the only one to report this. Like everybody else, I very much appreciate the board being here for us in the first place as well as the efforts that are being made to make it operate more smoothly.

Thanks, Owen, no problem. Sometimes it's hard to tell in cyberspace.

It just happened to me! In IE, no less. Stopped after I restarted it.

The 504 Gateway monster is alive and well today, too, although sometimes "server is not responding" shows up, just to make things interesting.

Of the post I put in, as above ^, I got a 504 time-out, apparently, but the post got posted, anyway.

I then tried to post this explanatory note, just afterwards, but couldn't get anywhere, as the C&F site was all locked up.

So, here I am a few hours later, just to mention that experience. Even this time, however, it took a couple of tries just to get on the board.

I might make some guesses at the root cause, but I have an imaginary bucket labeled "Don't get good at." Inside that bucket are many things. One of them is web design.

Gosh, aren't we lucky that Dale & crew have devised this wonderful target for all our pent up antipathy?

Dash that 504! Dash it good, I say! :x

Oh, aren't we so very lucky? Yes, indeed! :)

This was really ironic - this afternoon I recieved an e-mail saying there was a new message on this topic - and when I clicked on the link - Guess what happened!

It's working now - for the moment! :D

Now, I know that the 504 troubles are well known, but I'm posting my observations just in case they could be of any diagnostic help.

Both of my two earlier posts today on this thread were followed by a 504 message, and both times I wasn't able to log out, afterward.

At the moment all seems to go well, and good luck, Rich, on getting this figured out.

We're going to have to move the forum to a different hosting service. It's going to take some time. Sorry for the troubles.

Well, here I am, only a day or so later, and the C&F board now goes snap, crackle, and pop, as fine as one could please!

Go figure!
