Never the twain will meet.

Post by dubhlinn »

I often wonder what would happen if a certain singer or instrumentalist would have recorded a certain song or tune but, for various reasons, never did.

I can imagine the breathtaking version of "Dancing Queen" that Art Garfunkel could have given us. That great voice soaring above the incredible melody and wistful lyric.
Imagine the gut wrenching soulfulness that Nina Simone would have brought to Tom Waits "Grapefruit Moon".

As for Charlie Parker and the Kesh Jig...well....

Slan,
D.
And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

How about Roger Whitaker's splendid rendition of "Sheena is a Punk Rocker"?

Perry Como's version of Aqualung.

Sid Viscious and White Christmas.

Andrea Bocelli singing "Within You/Without You".

Elmer Fudd singing "Funkytown".

Clearly the Cheiftains have wondered the same thing over too many years and have subjected us to the, IMHO, usually awful outcome of pop star meets traditional Irish :boggle:

Cheers,

P.S....though I have to confess Sting wasn't half bad doing "Gile Mear" :D

P.P.S. I've been gone too long. What happened to the bloody  emoticon :-?

Johnny Cash sinning “hurt” and Metallica singing “whiskey in the jar” should give you hope.
