It's also possible that your aging cat is experiencing "Eye Floaters", sinc cats do not understand that the floater is in the eye, the cat may be backing off from it.

It's a little early to tell if the Attack on the Crazy-Making Feline Fleas has worked, but it's looking good. She's reverted to her baseline level of nuttiness.
