Denny: Thanks for that picture, but there's just something about going out on a clear night with a telescope, freezing your buns off, and seeing the wind make the images in your scope boil like an overheated tea kettle, just to see it for yourself. :P :wink:

Neither. It's because Saturn is approaching at a high velocity. Doppler shift causes the rings to appear compressed. Once it's gone past, the rings will appear to expand.
