the Vapours of Spittle
the Vapours of Spittle
I put this here in the Pub for the Pub is a place of liquids and, anyway, this crosses the flute and whistle forums because both instruments ask for the blowing and a mist is generated in that process and it collects and dribbles benignly, mostly, and theories abound on the nature of it (the dribble) and the best of them goes like this:-
tis pure H2O, water (or for those lurking indic musos whose attention I vicariously seek by posting here: "shuddha paani" ).
The thing is very few of us play with pure spittle in our system and we often find the dribble is not benign, neutral dribble unless we have been drinking only the "paani" at least an hour before and all during the course of the playing of the flute or whistle, if we drink anything at all. For others, and this includes me, the drinking of black India or China tea heavily sweetened with leatherwood honey (of Tasmaniac fame) or imbibing the ginger grape juice (with the bubbles), and still others, not being teetotallers at all, and against the injunction of Mr Vallely, imbibe the liver damaging, brain deadening stuff while playing, - well to cut to the chase - spittle is rarely ever so pure as to obtain a pure watery vapour in the distilled effect of the blowing.
See what I mean?
How often have you found the sticky dribble in your flute or whistle, especially at the end of your practice session when you go to wipe it?
Lately I have sworn so many times to switch to water when practising.
But, alas, I am a person of weak will ..........

Oh yes, I'll take some Compose and get right on it!Denny wrote:naw, I think Reg should do the writting!
Seems to me it would be a great session companion with "The Berries of Dingle" or maybe that's not quite right...
