Walden...was the Cherokee alphabet the one devised by Sequoya? I was trying to remember the other day, when I was telling people a little about the giant redwoods (sequoia sempervirens)...they were named, for some reason, after someone from the Eastern Nations, and it sticks in my mind he was Cherokee....

Pity this Sequoia man had to take up a western last name. Sempervirens is a hard one to wear, let alone sign.

Gee, I don''t know. It means "always living" which is cruel irony for Native Americans. At least the Cherokee are still kicking and some survived the Manifest Destiny.

This is not, however, cutie pie stuff....

Are you sure? wouldn't that be sempervivens, or something? It sounds more like "vir" in there, which means "man" and has given us such cutie-pie words as virile or virtue (virtus meant "manly courage/strength" originally, now isn't that pc for you?).

Well, Im not sure about semantics here, Bloomy. Its what we are always taught it means here in California for our redwood trees. Because they live to phenomenal age. Somebody named it, maybe they were a bit off in their Latin.

All right, folks. They say I need a platform to be elected Duly Elected Presiding Cutenik of the Cutiecommune, so dern it, I got a platform. Here's what I'm offering:

1)No new taxes.

2)No new boy-bands.

3)Three additional world-wide long weekends. These will fall on the Mondays closest to the following dates:

I.March 9--National Whistle Day
II.July 23--National Declogging Day
III.December 12--National Day of Remembrance for Those Killed As A Result Of Whistling In Their Motor Vehicles

4)One more wild-card holiday per year, to be chosen each year at random from the days not already falling on a weekday or another holiday, to be entitled:
National Day of Expectation for the Advent of the Crystal People and the Feast of Special Food.

5)Every person, dog, or green bean who votes Sullivan for D.E.C.otCc. will receive one (1) chocolate jerky-flavored whistle and one (1) jerky chocolate-flavored whistle on me, just to say thanks for the support.

6) I will like everyone very much.

A few additional words before ending my speech: Yes I do take bribes, no I am not a crook, read my lips, what do you mean by "is," the only thing to fear is fear (and clogging) itself, ask not what your whistle can do for you, ask what you can do for your whistle.

Thank you.

Thank you.

You're all a bunch of cutie-pies.

Bloomfield is a Bloomin' Cutie Pie for referring to his wife as Home Ruler on the Green Linnet thread! It's nice to see a man who knows what's up.

Just added to my platform--I have begun the campaign to choose a C+F anthem. See the last page of "Surprising impressions of various whistles" thread for details.

Okay...

How about this, to "Yankee Doodle"

Chiff and Fipple is our guidepost
All across the nation,
Plus Australia, Europe, and
The rest of all Creation!

Chiff and Fipple, keep it up!
Keep your High D's handy
Mind the music and the step
'Cause all cutie-pies are dandy!

M,

I have to say, that's pretty awesome.

Wouldn't some Irish tune be more appropriate, though?

Well, yeah, thanks. Irish would have been better, but College Reel wasn't working out and that's the inspiration that sleeted into my brainpan at that moment (any other Terry Pratchett fans on the forum)?

Maybe Wendina will have an idea.
