I speak English (and some Spanish), and I aspire to master Engl (and some Span). But I fear that these approximations are as close as I'll ever come.

Re: Gibber
That, sir, is a Gibber. Specifically a Gibber Italicus, a highly controversial breed of canary developed in Italy in the 1950s. The pic shows a standard example with the bizarre conformation typical of the breed - yes, that's how they look: radically bent neck and stiff naked legs and all - and I'd say the reasons for controversy are quite plain to see and IMO well-founded. It's sometimes amazing what you can find when you look on Google Images for a word that you would think has no corporeal form. It's because of this search that I learned that "gibber" is also Latin for "hunchback".MTGuru wrote:And by the way, Nano ... WTH?

- Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

... whence we also get "gibbous," an adjective applied to the moon when it's not quite full, or "hunchbacked".Nanohedron wrote:It's because of this search that I learned that "gibber" is also Latin for "hunchback".

Hence the famous novel, The Gibbon of Notre Dame. About a medieval experiment with temple monkeys that turned out very, very badly.benhall.1 wrote:... whence we also get "gibbous," an adjective applied to the moon when it's not quite full, or "hunchbacked".
