New album from Mary Mc Laughlin

Post by Redwolf »

I hope I'm not violating any rules by posting this, but I figured folks here may be interested. If it does violate the rules, mods, please don't hesititate to take it down. I'm posting it on the Irish language forum as well, as many of the songs on the CD are in Irish.

Mary Mc Laughlin is making a new CD, "Sacred Days, Mythic Ways," featuring music from both the pagan and the Christian traditions in Ireland. Most of the songs are in Irish, but a few (such as the one that opens the video on this site) are traditional Latin chants. I've heard several rough cuts from the prospective CD, and the music is just stunning.

Some of the songs on the CD may surprise you: For example, did you know that "An Cailín Deas Crúite na mBó" is actually from the fairy tradition? Mary does an amazing job with it!

I'm not asking you to contribute to the campaign (unless you want to, of course...there are some nice perks!), but figured I'd give those who enjoy vocal music in Irish a heads up that this CD will be coming out in October, and that it's going to be fantastic!

Here's a link to the video, which has a couple of cuts from the CD on it:

In case you're not familiar with her, here's info on Mary Mc Laughlin (who, by the way, also happens to be my Irish teacher!):

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Nice stuff!

Might I detect your voice among the backup vocals? :)

Nope...Mary layers the vocals, so they're all actually her own voice. Makes for an interesting texture!

I sing on some of these pieces in the Irish choir, however, including the "Hodie" that begins the video.

Hodie ... Isn't that the thing that all the kids are wearing nowadays?

There's a new clip up on the site. It's a cool arrangement combining the traditional Irish Christmas carol "Rug Muire" with a Latin "Salve Regina."

I'm looking forward to singing this in the concerts this year!
