- Tell us something.: Hi Nano. I was somewhat active on the Chiffboards maybe 5 or 6 years ago, participating in several whistle tours (Bracker, Hardy, Ellis). I took a break from the Chiffboards, and music mostly, for several years because I got a full-time job and had a baby. I'm easing back into the music, though (which is great, I missed it). It's good to be back!

My favorite pure-drop whistler. It's a pity he didn't live to record more albums. Thanks for the link!

Yes, I have watched this video many times before. Lovely playing and he had some of the most delicate fingerings I have seen. The holes on his whistle in the vid seem scalloped/carved or maybe its just wear and tear from use.
I have the CD 'Irish Traditional Music On Tin Whistle' and its wonderful! Highly recommend.

There's all sorts of stuff going around among players. And there is the old Outlet lp that has the whole O Brien family playing (see here. And his tunebook 'The golden eagle'. But fair enough, it will all be hard to find by now. It's a pity he didn't live to recor)d more albums.
edited to add link to lp.

I don't know if they have posted on this forum, but over on thesession Arran Records, who apparantly have most of the Outlet material, were asking for suggestions as to what to make commercially available as downloads http://thesession.org/discussions/34055Mr.Gumby wrote: And there is the old Outlet lp that has the whole O Brien family playing.

Re: Donncha Ó Briain:
Go on then:
two tracks from a tape recorded at home, in 1975, by Donncha and Mick O Brien:
Skylark - Donncha
Salamanca / Glass of Beer - Mick & Donncha O Brien
[fixed link to second tune, sorry about that]

Thanks for sharing, Mr. Gumby!
But, both of the links take me to the recording of the Skylark. (I'd love to hear Donncha play the Salamanca--what a tune!)
