Cleaning question.

Post by Whistling Willie »

Just a quick question.I have had a Goldie Overton soprano D now for quite a few years and never had any problems with it...until now.
I moved from Ireland to Brazil a while back and brought the Overton with me.I forgot about it and left it in a case with some of my other stuff in storage.I went to get some things the other day and found that the whistle, much to my dismay has been exposed to damp,so now it smells bad and it looks bad.
What would be the best way to clean it?

Tell us something.: Some of my original tunes are displayed at https://thesession.org/members/49476
I play several flutes, many whistles, many guitars, bouzouki, banjo, and own way too many pedals.
I could open a music store if I didn't live in the back woods of Pennsylvania.

Well, clean it! Try not to use any petroleum based cleaners.
Those whistles are pretty sturdy and able to take a thorough swabbing, wiping, sterilizing, or else.......

An aluminum whistle like that is very durable. I'd suggest good hot water with some dish soap and rinse well.

I used Listerine on a flute with the same problem - no I'll effects (so far).
