Treatment for WhOA?

Post by Guyon »

Any tips? 12-step programs? Effective medications? Self-help books you can recommend?

I've just begun playing, and I have four whistles en route via the post, two of them from England. I spend as much time looking at whistles and whistle makers as I do practicing. I lament the fact that I wasn't around to buy a Water Weasel before Glenn Schultz passed. I wonder how many whistle makers are going to stop taking orders before I save the scratch to place an order. I spend too much time looking at YouTube videos that cross-compare different whistles. I watch players on YouTube and constantly think, "What whistle is that? Hmmm... do I need one of those?"

Somebody make the madness end.

I thought being a grad student with very little extra money would do the trick. I was wrong. I've come across some very good deals on this board that are just too good to ignore :D

Sell absolutely everything you own...Everything! Then give all the money you made from said sale to me as a gift. Tell your boss to take the job and shove it and burn the last shreds of clothing you are wearing. That should just about cure it. You can keep the whistles you already have though. It would be beyond cruelty to make you get rid of your will to live. :P

Buy one of each, and keep one then sell the rest. That is far cheaper than grand pianos.
I have yet to find a piano that that will fit in my backpack.

Making music is pure joy.

Whistles are gems, in the world of musical instruments.

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Fall in love with a jealous whistle.

My Bleazey makes a lovely sound, when it is happy. If I spend too much time playing another whistle my Bleazey gets jealous and makes awful noises to punish me. I then need to lavish attention on it, maybe give it a rub down with almond oil. I have two other high-end low D's which I rarely play now. Maybe one day I will be whistler enough to keep them all happy.

One does not equal two. Not even for very large values of one.

maybe... i have to admit, i've seen several O'riodans go up on the irish flute store's site for around $700 a piece, and i couldn't justify to myself spending that much. but since then i've spent way more than $700 on whistles, and my WhOA continues, virtually unabated...

so i guess i need to hurry up and get one (of each! :) while there's still space on my credit card...

hah hah hah, that must be the answer!

:)

ps for the record, i'm currently obsessing over my reyburn and my o'brien rover (in olivewood--i contacted Mr. O'brien about getting a c body in olivewood, and he says he doesn't make olivewood whistles anymore, meaning that mine is rare--oh, how could i ever part with it now? :)

I think pretty much the same thing. The way I'd put it is, acquire whistles until you realize it's about the music, not the whistles.
