Liam O'Flynn's whistle used on Planxty Live 2004?

Post by Ballyshannon »

Does anyone know what whistle Liam O'Flynn was using on the first track of "Planxty Live 2004". I believe the tune is Rathlin Island. Love the sound of that whistle.

I tried finding his e-mail to ask him directly, but can find no way to contact him. I don't have the video but saw it a couple years ago. Don't recall what the whistle is.

I think he plays a Michael Burke whistle there.

Let me double check,

(comes back after watching a Planxty DVD)

Yep, Burke.

Tommy

P.S. the tune is The Glens of Aherlow.

Thanks. Sounded like a Burke but wasn't sure. If I recall from the DVD, it's a brass session...not aluminum?

My mistake, and you're right. Glens of Atherlow.

Hi,
Just a quick note. It is indeed a brass session D that Liam plays on the DVD and it is the older model that does not have the black tipped head piece. Liam got it from my good friend Mick O'Brien, I think in about 2002. Those two are my very favorite pipers in the world and they often play together in concert.
Lovely DVD, that one, with wonderful singing and playing all through.
All the best

He also plays a Copeland Low A. I gave it to him.
