Where to hear Irish Music in the DC area

Post by lfmn16 »

I recently moved to Charles Town, WV, about 70 miles from DC and Baltimore. Does anyone know a good place in this area to hear live Irish Music?

Thanks.

I haven't done a DC look up since I'm going to lunch. your options seem better than mine when it comes to Irish pubs. I'm jealous :P

Go to the CCE Potomac web site:
http://ccepotomac.org/
and get on the email list (or better yet, join up) and you will receive notices about events in the Baltimore Washington area. This time of year, they come almost every day.

And these folks run music Weeks and Weekends in your neighborhood:

During the events, they generally have the instructors give a concert that is open to the public.

Once a month in Round Hill, VA (less than 20 miles from Charles Town, WV):

There's a lot of bluegrass and other non-Irish in various rooms around the Arts Center, but there's an Irish session (usually a good one) in one upstairs room. I'm usually there.

I wouldn't waste the drive on this one if you want quality music. The majority of the music is provided by the owner of the place and I only heard him strum out one Irish tune on his guitar. The balance of his songs were things like Tom Dooley and other early 60's acoustic sing alongs. The stage area is only large enough for two people and not if one has a fiddle! The food is excellent though. The lamb chops and corned beef dishes are awesome. I live not far from there and pass it by on my way to work. I inquired if they ever hold sessions or even allow them and was told no.

Even though it's not a nightly thing during the year, you're close enough to attend the Augusta Heritage Festival in the summer.
