This weekend I am going to join a bunch of folks for a 12.5 mile (20KM) training walk. The weather is predicted to be sunny and 90F (32C) degrees. Southern California in July! :boggle:

I'll be wearing shorts - and lots of sunscreen. Everyone living west of Colorado is advised to wear sunglasses (or perhaps a welder's mask) when facing west on Saturday. 8)

I'll post an update to the fundraising total later today. There's more goodies to be gifted to add to the list as well.

Peace,
Daniel

The fettinsh is also Douglas Fir with overhanging wings. My wife says it looks like part of Klingon ship minus the front portion.

So it sounds best over a large glass of Blood Wine... or Prune Juice... ?

Seriously though... that's a pretty thing!!

Well dfer, I finished the Quest for the Magen. A Light MaGen has been found also a Dark one <shudder>.

I don't think I'll be doing that particular quest again in a hurry. It's a gruelling exersize. I tried to be as objective as possible, but there is a very subjective area in what makes a Gen style whistle good - part of their charm is the raspiness - and at what point does rasp become Buzz?? I scored over a hundred whistles by: Tuning, wheeze and 2 types of buzz - one can be puffed-around, the other cannot.

Anyway, I have a Light Magen - it's probably not a leGENd but has none of the nasty elements and is a very nice whistle. There were 3 finalists - one each Nickel, Brass and Folk - I spent about an hour deciding which one had the most charm. It will be engraved and donated :)

Of the contenders for Dark MaGen - there is one little beasty that stood head and shoulders beneath the lowest of the low - I think this one might be leGENdary - It has certainly earned it's name (Psychohazard) I feel nauseous just sitting near it. The squeemish need not open it's sound-file. It wil be duly interred in concrete as arranged - there will be a little ceremony to ward off the lingering evil emanations.

There are about 5 others that realy aught to be tweeked - perhapse Jerry can save a couple. As for the rest - all playable. For the most part, the buzzes and wheezes can be played-around. I found all of them to be a little sharp overall but that could be due to my altitude - All my mass-produced whistles read sharp to some extent.

I havn't got the final photos yet but here's the sound clips.

Photos later.

Look forward to seeing how you went in the walk, and who wins the bag :)
All the best!

C&F Sponsor Dollars $555.00
Items in the pot 14

I really appreciate the generosity of both the gift donors and the people who are donating to the Avon Foundation Walk for Breast Cancer. I decided to walk 39 miles in 2 days mostly because I can walk and it's for a good cause. I actually have no friends or family that have had breast cancer.

It's a little challenge for me, but certainly not as much of a challenge as those that tell me they are a "survivor" have had. Even more so, I can't imagine the challenge faced by the friends and family members that have lost someone to Breast Cancer. Still, they donate some money, and send me nice notes of thanks - and I'm humbled. I'm just walking.

But with each note of thanks I get more of a feeling that this is really important. I hope you can feel how important it is as well.

I'm going to invite everyone again to make a donation, and check out the gifts and make a little wish. $10 or $20 isn't much to each of us - but from many of us it can make a big difference. Thanks again to everyone who has pitched in.

Peace y'all,
--

6 more days to go. It's a weekend with a Friday payday and end of the month payday. I think most of us could spare US$20 for a great cause and good chance at getting a nice gift.

First, let me thank everyone who participated - either in donating an item to give away, or by making a contribution to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. I really, greatly appreciate the generosity shown by all participants.

The total amount raised for breast cancer research and care was US$775.00 and all the money was donated directly to the cause at:
http://walk.avonfoundation.org/site/TR? ... px=2443488

A total of 31 kind folks in the C&F community made donations from US$10 to US$125 - all donations are greatly appreciated. I would like to acknowledge all of the participants, but some have requested anonymity. Click here to see the contributors who did not request anonymity, it's the scrolling list on the left of the page. Dale is the undisputed largest donor, and the undisputed holder of the most opportunity tokens. Thanks Dale!

There are a total number of 15 items to be gifted away. Some very special and unique items - whistles, flutes, and more - will be gifted (see the list below). Some "humble yet lovable" items from anonymous donors are also going to be gifted - like a broken in Mellow Dog, and a slightly dented unpainted Sweetone in C that has a really comfortable voice.

Assigned tokens were put in the Magical Token Randomizer, then shaken randomly from the Portal of Priziness. In order, those to receive a gift are as follows.
1 dale
2 dale
