Benevolent Whistle-fan??

Post by kevin m. »

From 'The Sunday Times' yesterday:
"I was playing my whistle, and I heard a man say "that'll keep you going for a couple of days."".

Tim Pockett,a vagrant,on receiving a Diamond ring in his collection pot.
"I blame it on those Lead Fipples y'know."

Dunno whether he was being rewarded for his efforts or bribed to find another corner. Either way it worked out.

Interesting. Buying tickets to an actual traditional concert would cost less. I guess the guy had a lot of money.

But people can be surprizingly generous. One of the small ensembles from my school band playing xmas carols outside a store as a fund raiser was given a hundred dolars by one guy when the average donation is around five. It's not like they even could have sounded good--it was a cold day so their instruments must have been really out of tune and the reeds on the clarinets couldn't have been working too well. Our town is a bit obsessed with the band (it's the only thing that gets us any recogntion), but I didn't know anyone was taht obsessed....

Tell us something.: Of course I'm not a bot; I've been here for years... Apparently that isn't enough to pass muster though!

I hate to be the cynic here, but I can easily picture the scene of a
broken-hearted fiance dejectedly tossing away his recently returned
engagement ring. :(

I was thinking the same thing... this would be a far better act of despair than throwing it in the ocean though... 'one man's pain, another's joy' and all that.
