I hereby reserve the right to smack the first person who asks "Who's O'Flynn?", or worse, "What's Planxty?". :P :P :P :P

dunno what make of whistle Liam plays, though he could probably make most any old thing sound good. He's a very fine whistler in addition to being the bee's knees on the pipes.

I think he plays an old Generation on some tunes, and a brass Burke on others, if I remember right (been a while since I watched the DVD).

I think it's a Burke on the opening tune, and the Generation on the set that he starts with the Clare jig. I could be wrong, though.

thanks for the replies

When I listened the clare jig for the first time, I thought it's seems to be a good
Generation, but wasn't sure about this.
I dont want the same whistle to keep the O'Flynn sound :) it's just to know

Patrick.

Hi Pat C.--I won't ask who Planxty is. I would, however, like to know where Patrick Street is located!

I have the recording of the telly RTE program profile of planxty plus the live gig. I have not got the DVD yet only the CD Planxty live

Yes Liam O'Flynn playes D and C Burke but on the song As I Roved out (Andy Irvine) he playes the Bb Generation or maybe a Burke.

I will have a look/listen at the RTE program profile of Planxty and the CD to se which Bb whistle he playes.

Liam also playes a B natural whistle but not with Planxty. This whistle looks like a Bb Generation brass with red mouth piece it has two pieces. He had his whistle made for him (Mayebe Andreas Rogge)

Cheers

On the DVD he plays a B natural on 'As I Roved Out' (Andy Irvine).
There's never a clear enough view of the B natural to determine the make, but he plays a brass burke D and what appears to be a red top Generation C repaired with black electrical tape on other tunes.

Gary Humphrey

On the Planxty live 2004 CD I have 'As I Roved Out' (Andy Irvine) it is Bb whistle.

Liam plays D Burke, C Burke and C uilleann pipes chanter by Koehler & Quinn on Arthur McBride song and Leo Rowsome D uilleann pipes full set.

When I watch the recording of the telly RTE program profile of planxty plus the live gig he is using the B natural.

You're right... it's a Bb on the CD and a B natural on the DVD.

The most notable Patrick street that I know of is in the city of Cork.
