Congratulations!
I remember well...learning to do rolls / taps / cuts properly tore my playing to pieces. It took a long time to put back together.
But the first time it "clicks" and you get a smooth roll, one of those "magic" ones that fool the ear and make other (non-trad) musicians wonder what the hell you just did to make that sound...that's one of those things you remember for a long time.

Yay! They're tough to get going, and you have to make sure you don't get lazy and
break the rhythm or make it more of a turn than a roll, but they're worth it for the sound.
I listened to the recording of my teacher in Baltimore, when she was playing the tunes
we were to learn, and I realized I didn't fully appreciate her ornaments at the time.
They're amazing, bubbly, and rhythmic (she used to describe cuts, taps, and rolls as
"percussion"). I wasn't good enough yet when I lived up there to fully appreciate what
she could have taught me. Now that just playing a tune doesn't get in the way, I need
to find another teacher to refine my technique.

- Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.
Do they make a patch or gum for that?amar wrote:it's true, i tend to do that, i'll try not to do it that often anymore. serious.izzarina wrote:funny how quickly these threads seem to go OT, don't you think?amar wrote:and we are back to fig newtons again.

No, it's ok, amar. I'll let you get away with it this time, but only because I like Fig Newtons.amar wrote:it's true, i tend to do that, i'll try not to do it that often anymore. serious.izzarina wrote:funny how quickly these threads seem to go OT, don't you think?amar wrote:and we are back to fig newtons again.
