Last year I was determined to win a new whistle in Dale's whistle contest, but came away empty handed. :(

However, the contest introduced us to the CFPNI organization which, partly because of C&Fer's contributions, was able to bring 160 kids from Northern Ireland to the States this summer, including 2 girls staying with our family in Kansas City. We were all a little anxious but everyone hit it off great the first day. That evening, Sheryl and Chloe came down with gifts they had brought for us from Ireland, and I opened mine to find a new D whistle!

So I won after all - but I'm not talking about the whistle. We won the friendship of 2 awesome girls from Northern Ireland and a whole lot of laughter and "great craic" in our home. Thanks Dale! :)

(Sheryl and Chloe are keeping an on-line journal about their trip at http://www.thecraicsgreat.com )

At the risk of sounding commercial...

I've got a recording available on mp3.com, of which 50% of all earnings are donated to The Children's Friendship Project as well.

It's not on the caliber of Mary, Joanie or Paddy, but they are some of my favorite tunes. And actually, with the way mp3.com has been going, it's not making anyone but the biggest artists any sort of money to speak of.

So here's my offer.

For any CD's purchased through the end of August, I will contribute ***100%*** of all earnings to CFPNI. If it looks like it's working out well, I can always extend the time frame.

Perhaps we'll be able to add one more child to the peace process...perhaps more!

God bless you all,

Brian~

You can view the site at: http://www.mp3.com/blee

P.S. I hope I havn't offended anyone with this post. I feel it is relevant to the topic, but if others feel differently, please accept my appologies.

I've listened to the clips on MP3.com Brian and it is well worth having as you can hear the whistle highlighted in the tunes as opposed to blending with other instruments. Bring a copy to Grand Junction for me, I'm gonna have cash and need to spend it.

Brian:
That's a great offer. Sheryl and Chloe say "thank you! - every bit helps". Many of their friends have also participated in the program and they believe it is making a difference.

Although neither plays an instrument, Sheryl has been flipping through my trad books, circling all the tunes that I should learn so that when we come to visit them I'll be able to play along at local sessions. Given the number of circled tunes, I'll need to postpone that trip to about 2015. ;)

Dear Ron, and others-

If you are interested in a copy, the easiest way to grab one is right off the website. I can order them for myself and then ship them to you, but it costs about twice over doing it directly from mp3.com.

The CD contains a collection of slow airs and laments, which I think are still some of the most beautiful peices in all of Irish traditional music. Grab a copy, judge for yourself, and support CFPNI!

Slán agat!

Brian~
