hairy finger pads
I've been playing my recorder a lot lately,
and I find that long thick black hair is
growing on my fingers, especially on
the pads. This makes it hard to get
a good seal on the tone holes; also
my fingers get tangled together. I've taken to shaving them before I play. This provides some relief, but afterwards
the growth of hair is thicker and more
coarse. Am I alone in this? What can
I do? I don't know anyplace to turn
but to you'all.

- Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free - Location: Loren has left the building.

- Tell us something.: I've been playing whistle for a very long time, but never seem to get any better than I was about 10 years ago. I'm okay with that. :)

Jim,
I think you'll find this condition may worsen as we approach October 31st (Samhain, Halloween), possibly culminating in some sort of perverse Lovecraftian transformation. After the 31st your condition should return to normal, and I would guess you'll find yourself returning to the world of whistles and shunning the evil of recorders...at least till next year. -brett

- Tell us something.: Good to be home, many changes here, but C&F is still my home! I think about the "old" bunch here and hold you all in the light, I am so lucky to have you all in my life!

I'm grateful for all the suggestions.
I did try latex gloves, but the combo
of a latex covering over the underlying
fur (the word 'fur' is now
appropriate, I think)
produced hot hairy hands, a condition
considerably worse than hairy finger
pads. There's nothing
the matter with taking moderate quantities of LSD, I believe, especially when you've
done it all your life. I
really don't understand young people
these days.
No, I haven't gone blind--
but I think that's the direction of
a solution to the problem. One
mustn't play a wind instrument, any
wind instrument (not just recorders)
furtively. I'm gonna let it all
'hang out,' as my generation used
to say, and see if things get less
'hairy.' If not, I'll just knit a sweater. I'm outta the closet, sports fans! I like to
play the recorder! Thanks again..
