Do any of you play the Dixon Traditional D Whistle ABS tuneable head with a brass or nickel body. If anyone can give me dimensions of the this whistle so that I check if it headpiece would fit then my old whistle body.
Or any good makers making whistle headpiece. The Generation in Bb headpiece will not fit.
Cheers

Re: Looking for a new headpiece for old whistle
You could maybe try using the head of a Clarke Sweetone - the D head is a little wider than the Gen Bb tube, and you can adjust the fit with masking tape or something. My Bb whistle has a Sweetone head on it, because the old Gen head cracked apart.

How far does the Clarke Sweetone headpiece slide upto on tube.eric reiswig wrote:You could maybe try using the head of a Clarke Sweetone - the D head is a little wider than the Gen Bb tube, and you can adjust the fit with masking tape or something. It goes on a little more than 1/2" (14mm), and the inside diameter is .650" (16.5mm).
Anyway, just an idea.

Looks an awful lot like an old school Generation Bb or C head to me. Or maybe even a D, depending on the diameter of the tube. The colour certainly matches Generation blue.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Reading teh linked thread (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24231&start=0&hilit ... le+viceroy) I see that I had much the same to say back in 2008, the last time this question came up. I might or might not be right, but hell, I'm consistent.

Re: Looking for a new headpiece for old whistle
Got the CLARKE SWEETONE BRASS TIN PENNY WHISTLE in the post today.
After getting the headpiece of the Clarke Whistle I then needed to put some insulation tape on my old whistle before fitting headpiece on.
Finally when I got the Clarke headpiece fitted nicely I got my old whistle playing in D.
This whistle sounds far better with the Clarke headpiece than the original headpiece that was badly cracked and taped up with insulation tape.
So will give the old whistle body a good clean inside and out. Was thinking using using warm water and a squirt of washing-up liquid.
Any other tip to clean whistle.
Photos and maybe a sound file later.
Cheers
Fergus

Sound file of whistle.

Sounds far better as both octaves in tune.
The old whistle headpiece made the 2nd octave very sharp.

How does it sound relative to the Clarke Sweetone, pre-decapitation?Fergmaun wrote:Sounds far better as both octaves in tune.

Re: Looking for a new headpiece for old whistle
I didn't get the Clarke Sweetone whistle to compare with my old whistle.
I only played the Clarke Sweetone for less than a minute before removing headpiece.
The Clarke whistle is easy to play, both octaves in tune, very light in weight and the body is tapered with seam at the back of the body. Not a loud whistle more like a narrow bore whistle.
I needed a new headpiece for my old whistle only. The old whistle is a wide bore type whistle.
I am very happy with Clarke Sweetone headpiece on my very old whistle. Perfect tuning in D with lovely tone in both octaves.
Cheers
