I am new to the site and have enjoyed reading all the great info here. I have been playing for a month now and was at Bate's Nut Farm when I saw a whistle called a Woodstock by Clarke. My kid wanted one so I got it. Just wondered if it is the extra cheapie by Clarke or what. It is conical and has a plastic fipple.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Can you post some pictures of it? Clarke has from time to time rebranded their Sweetone. The Celtic Tinwhistle (http://www.clarke-tin-whistle.com/celtic.html) is one. There was also the Enchanted Tinwhistle (http://www.thewhistleshop.com/catalog/w ... chante.htm), which is not available anymore. (I'd like to get one of those, actually). Sometimes, they bundle the original Clarke tinwhistle with different themed songbooks.
I can't find anything on the Woodstock Clarke whistle on Clarke's site. It must be a discontinued model. What color is it? Did they have anymore?

Yes, it is a cheapie. But it's not a bad whistle for a beginner student. They don't sound as nice as the Clarkes with the wooden fipple, but they get the job done. I started out on a Clarke Sweetone 15 years ago and it served me well. (Still have it. Plays fine, if a bit squeaky). I liked it better than a Soodlum whistle I had later. The fipple is designed by Michael Copeland, so it has nice tone. The Sweetone is exactly the same as the even cheaper Meg by Clarke. The difference as far as I can see is that the Sweetone is made in England and the Meg is mass produced in Asia.

Update: Your Woodstock whistle (if my sleuthing was on the mark) is definitely a rebranded Clarke. I found this page on the Clarke site that shows a similar bundle available for bulk purchasing (look towards the middle/bottom): http://www.clarke-tin-whistle.com/educational.html. Without holding the whistle I couldn't tell you if it was a Meg or a Sweetone. I still lean towards a Meg, however.

I've played for the Ashleigh Roach Irish benefit at the Bates Nut Farm for the last several years. Will check out the whistles next time.
My parents always warned me that I'd end up playing at a nut farm ...

No, we'd never seen a photo confirming what they are. So nice sleuthing.
At that price ($3.97 US) they must be re-branded Megs.

This one is it and even came in the same cardboard display stand. We got a red one ( son's favorite color ) and it plays pretty well. I think they had both D and C ( got a D ). I am still learning the whistle ( Clarke Original ) and how to post. Thanks everyone for your interesting comments and research.

Is the benefit open to the public? Would like to check it out. It's quite a drive to the nut farm, but I go once or twice a year. We get pumpkins in the Fall.
