Tell us something.: Good to be home, many changes here, but C&F is still my home! I think about the "old" bunch here and hold you all in the light, I am so lucky to have you all in my life!

'S OK, as long as Celene Squeek doesn't sing it. Maybe Sarah Brightman in Italian...

I'm glad they aren't doing a real sequel...

and WAAAHHH. I can't open the .mov file on the site. It looked funny though.

And I agree; it was pretty the first few times, but then it was major overkill.

Okay okay - I'm no Céline Dion fan but boy, you guys sure know how to slam an incredible talent - I know, I know - you've just heard her waaaaaayy too much!! I agree. And that Titanic movie was sooo over-commercialized. It IS sappy and it does misrepresent Irish music, but - c'mon, some people do like it!

I had a French Canadian friend a long time ago and she absolutley loved Céline Dion. And if you really knew anything about her music, you'd undoubtedly agree that she has a spectacular voice. Over the last few years we've seen the sappy over-commercialized, read-about-her-in-the-tabloids garbage that we've come to expect when somebody becomes expoited to the 10th power. She's become Canada's Michael Jackson. My wife actually lived with some french-Canadians when she was skating, and they went batty over her music. Her older music still reminds her of those days - 20 years ago!!

There are nicer airs available to learn. If the Titanic thing is your bag (or whistle) - go for it! Just don't play it in front of hard-core trad guys;-)

John Palmer wrote: Wait till you hear the theme from the sequel.

You're talking about The Love Boat intro, right?

Titanic . . . soon will be making another round . . .

Wonder is Celine is gonna sing that . . .
I sing the birdie tune
It makes the birdies swoon
It sends them to the moon
Just like a big balloon

Speaking of Titanic’s love theme . . .

I had forgotten that I rewrote the song some time ago and e-mailed it to a friend, hoping for a (cheap) laugh. Since we’re on the topic, I thought I share.

And you can hum along, if you want.

That Song Will Play On

Every night I’d hear it
MTV, VH1
And I would start humming along
At first I thought it pleasent
The fans would request it
Now they won’t stop playing that song

Canned Spam
Whereever I am
I know that the song will play on
Death threats won’t put it to rest
We are all doomed forever
That song will play on and on

The story is quite tragic
a man and a woman
a ship that’s doomed on her maiden run
But i know the secret of Titanic’s earnings
Girls squealing at DiCaprio’s buns

Protest! Oh, give it a rest!
Oh, why must it play on and on?
I’ll put a gun to my head
But I know that won’t stop it
That song will play on and on

You’re here, with a keg of beer
And a tape of St. Patrick day songs
We’re drunk, it don’t mean a thing
Through my stupor, I hear it
That song will play on and on
I sing the birdie tune
It makes the birdies swoon
It sends them to the moon
Just like a big balloon

I'm a Canadian and I can't stand Celine Dion's singing! I find her voice shrill, and annoying. Somehow she manages to butcher every song she sings with an overly-complex style. To me, she's like a Canadian Barbra Streisand - somehow she is put on this pedestal like some magnificent wonder of nature but nobody really knows why because there are lots more people who are immensely more talented.

I wish someone would drop her through an ice-fishing hole. I can hear the French Canadians now, "En-ee-wun sin Celine? I wun-dare where she cood bee? ..."

Mamakash, those lyrics are HILARIOUS!!!

Incredibly funny!

Light spills into the hidden valley,
Illuminating the falls, paths, and
The breathtaking Elvish dwelling
Set back among great trees.
Lilting strains of Elven songs fill my heart;
I am finally home.

well, maybe it isnt traditional. But, then again.......maybe it will bring some wayward souls into exploring and enjoying traditional music. Sometimes, commercial exposure can open doors. Not EVERYONE is fortuante enough to be exposed to "traditional" music, DOORWAYS are good. Don't slam the door just because you don't like the direction someone walked in from.

dd, I agree with you on that point. I think a lot of people are "introduced" to traditional music by commercial music which, even if it claims to be, probably isn't. That's a good thing. Of course, I'm not one of those "traditonal music" purists - they may disagree.

But, I still don't have to like Celine

*whispers* I don't like her either! I'm just trying to be fair to people who do - and she's not here to defend herself. I really don't like that crappy song!

Cheers,
