There are many ways to skin a cat. Here is what works for me: I use #24 galvanized wire for bridles, two times around the reed just above the winding. It's a light iron(?) wire used for picture hanging. I used to use copper or brass sheet but found myself cracking reeds too often. #24 wire is not to...

Nick Whitmer pipemaker Web site

I make uilleann pipes & sell reedmaking supplies.

FYI, my (very simple) Web site is up & running. I'll be adding to it in coming weeks/months.

pipmaking woods

Here are a couple impressions I have from over the years of making pipes. I prefer african blackwood for its sound, stability (tendancy to warp, or shrink and expand with the seasons), looks and ease of turning. Ebony is less stable & harder to work than blackwood. All things being equal (how of...

here's my email address & thanks for the welcome

Thanks for the welcoming messages... Yes I have reedmaking stuff to sell. I still make the bass drone regulator in a shape which was inspired by a poppy seed pod. I can mail paper copies of price lists, or maybe send them as email attachments. No web site as yet. Someday probably. I had a fine time ...
