Re: Emu Eggs Hatched Early!

Maybe that's what baby emus look like... Not a chance. There's a field full of Emus down the road. Them's Oviraptors. Yeah, yer right... ! I called the emu farmer who sold me the eggs. He apologized profusely, and said he'd be by in a couple of days to exchange these little guys for some proper emu...

Emu Eggs Hatched Early!

I bought what were supposed to be some emu eggs and have been incubating them for the last month. Last night I noticed that they were moving a little bit. I was pretty sure that I was just imagining it, because according to the book, there's another month to go before they hatch. http://www.birdbrai...

Re: What's your signature Easter food?

Kielbasa with really strong, fresh horseradish. This is all that's left over from my Polish heritage (great-grandparents came over on the Pickle Boat). When I was growing up, my grandmother used to send us a package before Easter that had toys and goodies for the kids, and also had a big jar of FRES...

Re: A Car Design Idea

That's OK. I got ideas coming out my ears. I do 2 - 3 hrs of driving on weekdays, most of the time on pleasant, familiar roads with very little traffic. For some reason, while I'm doing low-stress driving, my mind wanders off into a creative zone. I designed a hoop-greenhouse out of emt conduit, fi...

Do not get it. At all. A meme with which I am not on board. http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/x-shreds The two foundational elements of making a “shred” video is based on how well an electric guitarist “shreds” on the guitar they are using during the performance and on the vocal style/ability of the vo...

Re: VERNAL EQUINOX

For you bird lovers. After I drove my son to school today I sat in the car for half an hour just listening. The school is in a really nice location -- there's a big meadow and woods nearby. Along with the usual robins, house finches, grackles, etc I also heard these newcomers http://www.birdbrainsan...

Re: This could be....e-musing

Here is a vid of someone candling a finch egg (Green Singing Finch)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ih3m2VWK9Ds

that's almost exactly what I'm seeing. That egg is day 5 out of 14 -- 35% of the way along.
Meanwhile, the emu eggs are 40% of the way along....

Re: This could be....e-musing

Day 22 out of ~ 55. Eggs 2 and 3 continue to be right on schedule. Their weight is following the line on the graph almost exactly. This doesn't mean that they're fertile -- "clear" eggs will do the same thing --but it means, if there's chicks in there, the environment inside is ideal for t...

Re: VERNAL EQUINOX

Yeah, really! I woke up this morning and found the ground covered with snow! Although, I can't say I didn't expect it, as it was sleeting up a storm all yesterday. That's pretty unusual for "bluegrass country" isn't it? :o As of today ours is melted except for a few places by the d...

Well, the little guy seems to be having some issues with his grip. I think he'd have trouble playing ornaments! Maybe if he switched to a high D?
