Re: what flute you like the most
For me it is a Doyle. Personal preference. Fits me for everything. :) I've got one of those too. Cracker of a flute. Martin makes a fine tooter. I want to thank you for your original advice. I tried my flute teacher's. For me, the Doyle is just right. Best decision that I ever made about a flute. :...

The one that I don't have.... oh, what's that over there? Shiny!
Actually the one I like the most is the one I play the most.... being that the more I play just one particular flute the more love it gives me back.

Read the "Beware the cheap eBay Flute" stick at the top of the threads.
Do not buy. You will waste your money on garbage. We can help you find a reasonable flute for your budget if you ask.

Not to be confused with the inferior less solid ebonite trees no doubt. As a consumer I appreciate the attention to detail. Certainly a description of best quality.

Just for the record I've never actually witnessed MTGuru walk and chew gum at the same time.
Although, I suspect he can and pat his head while rubbing his tummy as well.
It's just a hunch.

Re: is there a wilkes flute user in this forum??
I got my hands on ( for a slender few minutes) a 17 year old Wilkes 8-key blackwood that Chris very recently gave a tune up. I'm not shi'ttn you all but I quite thought I had lost my mind. It was that good of a fine machine. I'm throwing my hat in the ring for one even if it's ready just before they...

Re: Seaking info on a flute, is it worth repair??
Yup Metzler was my first guess. The wide bands, crown set up and the lobed Eb key.
All of Terry's sugestions for repairs are great but I'd hit up Jem for this one.

Re: Help with old flute from ebay
Hard to guess what the tuning is but it should be reasonably playable. Check for leaks around the metal ferrules and rings on the tone holes. It's got that later 19th c. Metzler look. It's English made. I think quite it's worth getting in back in condition. I haven't looked at all the photos... Wher...

Re: On tonguing and the Irish Flute
A humble note. Yes, generally there is not much use of tongue articulations. It's not just a matter of "style" but the method of construction of the music itself. Not to say there isn't a place for it but it's very spare. Telling a player new to ITM to not tongue forces one to rely on othe...
