Re: size of repertoire

Just depends what you want to do with your instrument, what music you want to make. Some of the best players I know (and you may well have bought some CDs by them) aren't great session lovers. They see the instrument as a solo instrument mainly, or perhaps teamed with one or two other musicians. The...

Re: Rochelle Concertina

Yes. and Yes. !!

I have one. You can learn on it fine
More expensive would buy you something with a faster action
and with a decent re-sale value (the Rochelle hasn't got either of these)

what did you use to make the modification?

Re: D harmonica compromises

Thanks

I have 4 Paddy Richter tuned harps already
Here you have to buy them online as music shops haven't heard of that tuning let alone stocking them
(tremolos are more commonly used for Irish and Scottish Trad music here)

To get a Paddy low D I'd have to modify or have someone do it for me I guess

Re: low D in Paddy Richter

Thanks for the post
Where do you source one of those?
Or do you have to do the re-tuning yourself?

Re: THE GREAT FREE-REED YOUTUBE THREAD

Video fluoroscopy (a low dose Xray video, in other words) of harmonica playing: shows what the soft tissues of the mouth pharynx and larynx are doing when you play various notes on a harmonica (including bending notes)

D harmonica compromises

I have paddy richter tuned harps by Seydel and Suzuki. The D and the Eb are both a bit tinny as high pitched. And the D is missing a note which requires either a 2draw bend to get the G or you play up an octave and end up in a very high pitched place using tone holes 4 to 10 And blends less well wit...

G/D Seydel Irish Sampler vs Irish Slide Diatonic

Does anyone here have any experience of these harmonicas? I am keen to hear thoughts. Also, I can't work out what notes exactly are played (& in what order) I play Paddy Richter diatonics currently but the ornamentation options of the two harps I am asking about seem better. I can't really justi...
