Re: PIPERLINK to Pasadena, CA

If you need a second fix, pop on up to Salt Lake City next Wednesday the 13th. Last stop on the tour and sure to be a complete raging party!

Re: RIP Larry H Miller

An interesting legacy to be sure. He's about the only person I can think of who seems to have pissed off just about every single Utahn as some point or another for a great myriad of reasons. Movie theaters or no - he wasn't the most upstanding person out there, not my a long stretch. One's passing i...

Re: Speeding up the old desktop XP computer...help

First and formost: Perform a re-format of the hard drive and a complete reinstall of XP. It's the only way to be certain you have gotten rid of any hidden beasties that may be causing the system to hang or slow. It's extremely simple to do, and only takes a bit of time...no major software or program...

Re: Paddy Moloney's concert D pipe pitch?

Presumptuous or no - you wouldn't be able to hear them I expect. Most of the time they've only got a single mic available for the chanter anyway. You could always rig up a little wireless set-up like Paddy uses for his bass drone I suppose. :)

Re: fast food ads VS fast food reality

Next thing we know, the fast food empire will be asking for a government bailout because we, the fast food consuming populous, has gotten wise to the fact that they're serving us crap and not the juicy goodness we see in their ads! I bet the Germans and Japanese have engineered far more advanced foo...

Re: Paddy Moloney's concert D pipe pitch?

It may depend on which chanter he's got running at the time. His Rowsome seems to like to be reeded a bit hot of 440 it's true, though if he's got one of his Gallagher sticks up and running, I would think you'd be a bit closer to the 440 mark. When he's been out this way, he couldn't quite get the G...

And yet...it always seems to look the worst when I'm done eating it (and processing too of course!) ;)

Yeah, but it's just not the same without the quip about "baby makin' music'! LOL

My special christmas gift to all of yous! ;)

This was on a radio station here a few years back - brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it! (among other things) Clicky on the link at the bottom there.

Have a listen. WARNING: do NOT drink milk whilst listening.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

Re: USA, Colorado, Durango

Sorry to be so late in reply here - I actually moved back to SLC from Durango in June, and the Embassy wasn't up and running then. From what I hear now though, they are indeed open (despite the sudden and unexpected death of one of the principal partners like a week after they opened.) I hear that s...

Re: A Question for the Scientifically Versed.

So no answers. :( This is desperate. You did this for years and no-one in the lab ever explained it to you. I mean, did you ask ? How did you know the tiles were white-hot in the middle? Did the heat just sit in there while you were mauling them around with your bare hands? Can you post me a white-...

Re: A Question for the Scientifically Versed.

Was there some sort of magic going on then? You could hold a tile that was red-hot in the middle and cold on the outside? How did the heat get to the middle, and how did the heat get back out again if not via your hand? Did it never cool down, like the sun staying so hot in the middle? I've flushed...

Re: A Question for the Scientifically Versed.

Yeah Steve - I mean, I only worked directly with shuttle tiles in my hand for years and years. And we only knew a whole bunch of the techs from Nasa who were involved in their initial creation and refinement over the years. And we only worked on national education programs about the very tiles of wh...

Re: A Question for the Scientifically Versed.

In their application on the outside of spaceships hurtling through the upper atmosphere it is not the function of the tiles to heat to the core. Were this to be the case the heat gained (from friction) would dissipate both ways, both back into space and also, fatally, into the ship. The whole point...

Re: A Question for the Scientifically Versed.

Spending a decade at the local planetarium, and demonstrating shuttle tiles many times daily I may be able to shed a bit more insight for the masses here. First off, I believe what your son may have been thinking of Emm, could be the older "ablative coatings" applied to the bottom of the M...
