Frog, That scale doesn't sound dangerous for an concert chanter. Without knowing how hard it is to blow, it's difficult to say exactly what to do to remedy. You do need to adapt to your individual instrument, learn to shade notes, alter pressure etc., The one thing that does stick out, is that the h...

Check that the reed is not open too much. The opening in the lips should be around 1mm or so. Crikey!! Divide that by 4 please. Maybe the blades and the gap together should be about 1mm. Frog, Perhaps if you post details of the chanter make, the reed make, and exactly what is 'horrible' about the n...

I'd say the left hand man looks like Johnny's son Larry (and if so, then yes it's a DW set). Johnny and Larry et al were in town recently here, and a good fun night was had.

I've heard way too many pipers whose drones are all over the place and their chanters choking or squealing from too much/too little pressure and if these players had maybe spent a year working with only the chanter, they'd have done themselves (and anybody listening to them) a colossal favor. Yes. ...

So, they might have belonged to a Tom Ward? Maybe the Tom Ward, as in 'Tom Wards'.

Gwan, that should be worth another $5k!

Rory, These are from some notes from Pete Hunter I took back in about 1990. As visiting him would have always been an adventure, I cannot guarantee that my transcription is accurate or complete. You'll need to make sense of 'em yourself. This is the same source as Davy Stephensons notes on his site,...

I think there may be problems if you try to fix the blades 'in situ' as once there is a crack, the whole curvature of the blade can alter. I reckon untying the blades and glueing it while there is no tension will probably see better results. I've used this ultra thin stuff called Zap CA before and i...
