Re: Reed dimension adjustments

maybe Alan Burton has a cause and effect segment on his website. Mr. B? Yup. Though I don't necessarily agree with all of it. I guess it needs updating. http://www.reedshaman.co.uk/adjusting.htm It's all a bit like Rubiks Cube to me. You work aligning all these different parameters and reactions an...

Re: High B and C completely off.. Help?

Unfortunately I have already destroyed two reeds from wrong cutting/scraping and therefor for now I do not dare destroying another one :) I have read that if I do need to insert a rush into the reed, I can use a .10 high e acoustic guitar string. Can anyone agree/disagree? Hello Ofer. Hope you dest...

Re: Pictures of Your Pipes

Hello Bill, Pretty much 11mm wide, (though I have a 10.5mm prepared for the 'proper' reed, but will be experimenting anyway). 90mm slip. 52mm length staple (currently 3.2mm ID tube, but I will be rolling as I think it will be better for the E/e relationship). Pitch was bang on with prior to any adju...

Re: Pictures of Your Pipes

Just received this 'Coyne style' B chanter made by David Lim of Manchester. I am very chuffed, even with an excitably made 15 minute reed it sounds great, crisp, sweet and even. The Hard D is like throwing melted chocolate into the snow (or make up your own analogy). It's a quality instrument! Sound...

Re: loose ferrule

If it's a tight fit that hemp/thread won't fit (as you mentioned), try shellac. Get some flakes, 'melt' it with some meths until it's syrupy and paint it on the inside of the ferrule. Place back on, allow to dry and *bingo*. Or even beeswax (hold a blob in the ferrule, heat ferrule until wax melts, ...

Areet Steve, Try this (this will give you wire similar to the stuff NPU used to sell). You will need access to a jewellers rolling mill though..... 1.6mm copper wire, annealed and rolled to 0.7mm, annealed again to harden, rolled to 0.6mm. The rolling will automatically produce the width. If you get...

Gouges Sold. Thanks for your interest. Fel: I sharpen with oil and a fine grain slipstone (Aluminium Oxide?). I get them set (pretty much as Joe mentioned) by a skilled toolmaker about once a year after my sharpening stone has made the cutting gradient a bit wonky. 'Sharp enough to draw blood from a...

I have the ginsberg plans and have compared the regulators with the dimensions from david quinns cd-rom for a rowesome set. both the tenor and baritone are within 1 or 2 mm in every dimension! I didnt check the bass. For bores, 1 or 2 mm is, well, miles where drones are concerned! Especially for te...

FS: Gouges

Hello, I am selling a couple of gouges I never seem to use. They were part of the long road of experiments and didn't quite meet my needs or didn't make any discernible difference to reed outcomes. The #4 is quite narrow for a normal gouge and would mostly suit working narrower slips for flat pitch ...
