Re: Identity Problems

A somewhat similar exchange happened to me, telephonically. One day my phone rang, and after I answered with my customary "Hello", the caller responded with, "Hey, guy, how ya doin'?!" And the voice was that of my friend Dave, a roommate from college with whom I hadn't spoken in ...

Re: Buying a Chinese Xiao on Ebay

I don't have experience with purchasing Chinese instruments from E-Bay, but I've received several nice instruments (bawu, hulusi, and dizi) from the Melody of China website , at what I think were fair prices. The group is run by professional musicians here in the SF Bay Area, and I don't think they ...

Vibration mode on the Vergatorio, of course, would be called "Throb".

Re: Peterson Strobe Tuner and Amazing Slow Downer for iPhone

I installed the tuner on the Touch. You need the second generation Touch, & an external microphone. I purchased the Apple earphones with remote & microphone. I was surprised by how nice the earphones are. I don't know if another microphone setup will work with the Touch. http://store.apple....

Saw the movie in IMAX yesterday. Fun stuff.

A friend of mine sent me this link, though, which is pretty funny (I guess there's only one way to start a space epic...):

Re: Peterson Strobe Tuner and Amazing Slow Downer for iPhone

I installed it on my ipod touch 2G, & it works very well. Thanks for making me aware of it. Did you install the tuner on your Touch? I have an iPod Touch, as well, but wasn't aware that there was a mic on them that would allow one to use a tuner like this. I'd be pleased as punch if it does! An...

Re: Keyed Bamboo Flute

I think I've seen a photo of a bamboo saxophone with at least one or two keys. It's not a flute, but it'd show that mounting keys is at least possible.

Ah. Found it.

Re: Re-re-reading one's favorite novels

I guess we take for granted that poetry is something to return to repeatedly? It is for me, certainly. I also like to return to short story collections, since well-written stories are often as rewarding on re-reading as poems are. But there are lots of good reasons to re-read novels, too: Some novel...

Re: is busking begging?

This is the distinction I draw. Interestingly to me, I've encountered some passers-by who don't seem to notice the difference between noise garbles used as a prop, and well-wrought music, and they seem to enjoy or even praise and tip - or not - pretty much equally. Sort of depressing, when you thin...

Re: shrubs

Azaleas can live for hundreds of years in the right conditions, so your shrubs are probably not old-timers, in the grand scheme. I've seen some pretty impressive old azaleas, almost tree-like in stature. The FAQ from the Azalea Society of America may have some pointers for you. Looks like pruning ma...

So just take your coffee black, like a real man. Then you'll be able to get back to your paper before that wicked Canadian shows up.

Milk and sugar are for pansies, anyway.

(I think it was Christopher Fry who said, "Coffee in England is just toasted milk." Seems about right.)

Save your pity. We Midwesterners, at least, have the glory that is lime Jell-O salad, with shredded carrots and cottage cheese. http://www.familyoven.com/user/recipe_thumbnails/00103/04872/103-204872_t150.jpg That thing scares me.* I think this is what happens when you don't have enough to do in th...
