One last thing - for learning one really can't get much better than the Online Academy of Irish Music - www.oaim.com.

Re: WTB: Interesting Hi D whistle <$100 for teen beginner (US)

The Killarney D is outstanding but the Eb is exquisite. Do buy it for yourself as a treat. As a side note - while Bb is a beautiful key I don't know why anyone would buy someone else a Bb as their first whistle, given that they would then be unable to play along with most tutorials, sessions, or rec...

Re: WTB: Interesting Hi D whistle <$100 for teen beginner (US)

As someone who has played a LOT of top quality whistles, I agree that a Killarney Whistle in D would be a fantastic choice. I just get a D and an Eb and they are both absolutely superb, though they are obvious and blatant copies of John Sindt's whistles (which are, unfortunately, nearly unobtainable...

Do you want to pay for Dale's legal fees for editorially singling out one maker? Great! We'll let you know where to send the check.
No need for a snarky response, truly.

Re: Buying an anglo concertina - what key and layout?

A brief update - I bought a used R. Morse & Co. Céilí anglo C/G with Jeffries layout. I love it.

Thanks again for the help!

Buying an anglo concertina - what key and layout?

Hey folks, I'm an experience flute and whistle player preparing to get started on concertina (I also play a bit of B/C button accordion). I've decided to buy one of the R. Morse & Co Ceili Anglo Concertinas from The Button Box. http://www.buttonbox.com/morse-ceili.html A number of keys and layou...

Re: tuning slide to loose

I strongly, strongly recommend consulting directly with the flute-maker or with a professional repairer. As someone who has made mistakes related to flutes, with disastrous consequences, I know that hell hath no fury like a flute-maker whose flute has been messed up by someone who didn't consult wit...

No, we couldn't!

:P
Darn, you're right. Mea culpa. Well, can we still at least argue about whose flute is best?

A Game of Flutes: The Red Wedding

Or Targaryens... Good call. Here's a good discussion - if each of the families from A Game of Thrones played flute, which maker's flute and model would each play, and why? In retrospect, I suppose I ought to have named this thread " A Game of Flutes : The Red Wedding " [ Your wish is my c...

Re: Blow your own flute! Come argue which flute is best...

The point here is to argue about flutes, preferably as subjectively as possible. If you people are unwilling to argue about flutes we could also argue about the following: - The Rolling Stones, Beatles, or Led Zeppellin - XBox, Playstation, or Nintendo - Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone - McDonald'...
