Re: bagging

Cilantro sounds like the kind of car you can't afford, and wouldn't buy anyway. :poke:

Re: bagging

Now and then in the UK, some youth organisation - Scouts, Guides, Goths for Jizo, or what have you, do a deal with the supermarket so they will bag your goods for a donation to their charity. Uniformly they are not experienced. I like to pack my own. I've got my own way of doing things, thank you, a...

Re: Every home should have one.

It was Flickr, actually, now that I recall. I used up my allotment of space and am too cheap to pay for more. I could delete some of the images that are there but I don wanna. Anyway, if you picture to yourself the front page of a tunebook with the title "Ukulele Ceilidh" and a small pictu...

Re: Why do people get offended ?

"The truth doesn't hurt unless it should". There is a whole question of when is a slur casually abusive to a section of people you were not even thinking about. Someone confronted me about this when I called a politician "****ing mental". It's ablist and offensive to people with ...

Every home should have one.

The book "Ukulele Ceilidh" by "Granny Franny" (Fran Gray). I spent a long weekend in Orkney recently and picked up a copy of this for a friend of mine. I just fell in love with the title. I got the Ukulele World Tour by the same person. I tried and failed to find a picture of the...

Re: Reintroduction of Yours Truly

Facebook's not for C&F and you don't want it to be because it will be the end of C&F here if you let it. Facebook's the biggest killer of club sites, forums and blog comments out there because everyone just comments on Facebook thinking it's the same and the comments get swallowed up to bec...

Re: Reflections on fiction

Depends on the book, surely?

I like to read the foreword, the introduction and the prologue, and the afterword and epilogue as well.
The introduction has always had something useful and helpful to say.

I expect S1m0n reads the epilogues. That seems unbalanced to me.

Re: Airline stuff.

I'd be happy enough to describe Ewan MacColl either as English (by birth) or Scots (by parentage). I didn't know him, so don't know how he would have felt. Great, great talent, though, however you describe him. No argument from me! Well, I'm Irish by birth and Scottish by heritage and English by lo...

Airline stuff.

There have been a few incidents on plane flights to scare the whassname out of people. Here's one from Ryanair, where a passenger is asked to prove he can play the instrument he's carrying, by playing something Irish. http://boingboing.net/2017/05/08/watch-what-happens-when-man-br.html So he plays &...

Re: Thursday is ''Star Wars Day''

Yer wans missed a trick when they started this new series of Star Wars fillums. They should have created a new one, in between the one where they created the clones, and the original "New Hope", where the rebels infintrate the cloning factory, planet, whatever, and ensure that no starship ...

Re: New member saying Hello

Hi Larry! Next time you're in your local music shop (mine is about nine miles away) have a look for Generation or Clarke whistles. They are the cheapest and a bit hit-or-miss, but they tend to be good enough so that you know if you want to continue. It's also possible to make your own, cheaply, too!...

Re: Consulting the Geek Oracle: Spam

I have four email accounts, two of which I hardly use. My work email gets about ten spam emails a day. That's not counting the ones that Microsoft (Bless 'em!) send me to tell me about their wonderful new box of tricks this week - despite the fact that I'm on the wrong continent. The two dead-ish em...

No, but I'm not surprised. It was only a matter of time. At least this may allow makers to cope with the conical bore issue.
