Re: Low Bb bore diameter
20mm on all Bb flutes I've seen, however those were modern ones, not antiques. A board member has an antique R&R Bb flute and might want to chime in... The typical diameter of a D flute headjoint is 19mm, and depending on the Bb flute's design (i.e. if the head bore needs to be long or short), a...

Burke whistles in C and Bb, aluminum or brass?
Hi, I'm considering to buy Burke whistles in C and Bb and am wondering which material to choose. I know that Burke whistles are generally on the pure side, tone-wise, but I wonder what your experiences on differences between the materials are, if there are any. Also, if you've got a Burke in C or Bb...

FS: Rogge D chanter, fully keyed + stop key + "tuning slide"
Hi, I'm selling my Andreas Rogge concert D chanter made of ebony, boxwood and brass, with four keys (Cnat, Bb, G# and long F), stop key and tuning slide device for moving the reed without removing the reed cap. It's the same system Andreas uses on his tenor/baritone regs. The chanter is about 15 mon...

FS: flute pickup/microphone system
Hi, as I'm changing to a mic-on-a-stand solution for my "auxiliary flutes" (Bb, Eb, whistles etc.) I'm selling one of my two flute pickup/microphone systems. It is based on the AUDIX ADX10-P cardioid lavalier microphone with a velcro clip tailored for unthinned wooden flute headjoints and ...

Re: Which F key to choose (short or long) for new wooden flute.
Cancel the C key, get a Bb key instead, and the long F. Reason: long F is operated by your left pinky (or right if you're playing left-handed), which doesn't have any other job save pressing the G# key. F-to-D/D-to-F movements (which aren't really nice with a short F key) happen a lot more often tha...

Re: What kind of microphone suits a flute well?
I'm talking at least four-band semi-parametric EQs of course, anything less isn't really appropiate live gear IMHO...most venues we're playing these days have digital consoles anyway, and getting a low cut, that only cuts the very low end, tailored onto my flute signal really isn't a problem there. ...

Re: What kind of microphone suits a flute well?
I use Audix ADX-10 lavalier mics with selfmade flute clamps that recycle the tie holder that comes with the mic. Have a few of them, attached to various flutes, and I used to carry a submixer with me to EQ the sound and send one single flute signal to the FOH man. These days I'm just sending all the...

Aebi Eb flute in Cocus stolen in Bückeburg, Germany
Hi chiffers, a friend's left-handed Aebi Eb flute has been stolen yesterday, October 20th in Bückeburg, Germany. It's a 2003 Rudall&Rose model with all the keys and pewters on the foot joint, but without headjoint, so it is only the body that's gone. Cocus wood, fairly brown (not darkened), and ...
