Recorded during a concert of the band Litha when I was standing in for Claire Mann. Not really ITM though, but there's a flute in the video! Touring again this November, let me know when you happen to be somewhere near...

Re: Flute Making.
Copying active maker's flutes to make actual money from it is very bad practise IMO. Of course just copying alone doesn't make the copy a flute equally good as the original, but still...you just don't do that. Not really sure if it's OK to copy a flute one already bought for oneself, for having a ba...

Re: worth noting
When I was learning the Moving Cloud, I found that this alternate fingering of high C makes things a lot easier: OXX XXO. Just don't blow too hard or you'll get high a...ouch!

Re: Tuning question
That is really sharp. Use a folding rule stuck into the headjoint from the barrel end to check the cork position. To make the entire second octave that sharp, the cork must be way out. I just tried the cork at 11mm on my own flute, and that makes things very sharp, but not as sharp as you mentioned....

Re: Tuning question
24mm is really far out. I know a few people who play that way, but it doesn't work at all for me - second register gets way too flat and the tone gets muffled and unstable, especially when playing with high pressure and a lot of embouchure hole coverage. Of course it's also a matter of taste. When t...

Re: Tuning question
Check if the cork is set correctly. A cork position too close to the embouchure center can cause a sharp second octave. A correct position is somewhere around 19mm, measured "embouchure hole center - cork surface". Especially if only the second half of the second register is sharp, that mi...

Re: Rudall serial number register up and running
Nice register that is!
I've got a story about 3801. I owned that flute for a while. D.O. told me Matt Molloy called the flute "The Monster". Quite a good name, I have to add.

Re: New Blackwood Olwell on ebay
It is not uncommon for african blackwood to have brown streaks. Always depends on how old the stocks are and how old the tree was. With time, (sun)light exposure and oiling, the wood turns pitch black. I once had a few billets of blackwood that were indeed pitch black inside and outside, but that ti...

scottish repertoire on A/D (14p) cornemuse?
Hi, I've been musing about border pipes and scottish repertoire during the last weeks - I like the border pipes, but from reading a lot on the web I learn that, despite not reaching the volume GHBs get, they're usually still quite loud, at least "they" say that about the easily available b...

Re: Foot keys -click clack of the pewter onto the strike plates
I'm not annoyed by the clacking. I'm actually extremely used to the overall feel of pewter plug foot joints and find it irritating when they're not clacking... I got some comments from studio people in the past, some even tried to remove the clacking with hyper modern audio editing software. I asked...

FS: Sindt Bb, Freeman Gen C whistles
Hi, I'm selling my Sindt in Bb, made from brass in early 2012. It has some patina and a slight dent on the back side, halfway between mouthpiece and first finger hole. I have no idea where that dent comes from, and it doesn't affect sound or playability in any way, in fact I only found it when I exa...
