FS: Sindt whistles in D and C, Kelleher bellows and bag

Hi, I need to buy tooling for the flutemaking workshop, so I'm clearing out some stuff... 1. Sindt whistles in D and C 240€ for the D, 270€ for the C. Both for 480€. 2. Kelleher bellows, in Wenge, fabric trim, full size, antique brass finish. Comes with rubber connector, strap and belt, and fabric p...

I can also vouch for Maurice. Been doing business with him for some years now. Good man, good keywork.

Re: How important is lifting the first finger on High D, really?

When the tuning is different for xxx xxx and oxx xxx, there's something wrong with the flute. oxx xxx does nothing else than opening the flute bore at a pressure node (I think it's called like that, I'm not a physicist) which forces the first harmonic of low D to sound, or locks the air column to th...

Re: Mineral Oil?

A tenon with cork on it needs to re-lapped if you drown it in oil. I would also remove a thread lapping before an oil bath and do a new one after oiling. Key pads also have to be replaced when drowned in oil. I use linseed oil on all non-dalbergia and non-cocus woods (boxwood, olive, mopane) and alm...

Re: Olwell flute re-cork?

Cork lappings are easier to get snug and (air)tight, but are not too user-serviceable. The risk of cracking sockets is low. They allow more shrinkage or swelling before getting too tight or loose than thread lappings. Risk of constricting tenons is low. They easily accomodate oval sockets and/or ten...

Looking to buy a Rudall & Rose flute.

Hi fellow fluters, I'm looking to buy an original Rudall & Rose flute. No Rudall, Rose & Carte or Rudall, Carte & Co. flutes, it must be a R&R. It should be a serial no. below 5000, preferably in the 2500..4500 area. Sounding length should be as close to 580mm as possible. Doesn't ne...

Re: Olwell flute re-cork?

I think it's really easy, however I'm using my lathe for sanding the cork down evenly to fit the socket...never tried it by hand. Cork sheets: I get mine at http://www.fmb-direkt.de/en/home/, and http://www.dawkes.co.uk sells them, too (though smaller). Both will send to Sweden, but I'm not aware of...

Re: Serial numbers of deceased Rudall simple system flutes?

I once had a RR flute in the workshop which had a replacement, unmarked upper middle joint. The rest was original. No serial number of course...style-wise I'd put it in the 3xxx..4xxx area. Claw keys, small-ish holes, hubcap keys, rather long, square striker plates, silver metalwork, a lot in common...

New CD: The Land's End Sessions by Steffen Gabriel

Hi folks, http://www.thelandsendsessions.com/tles_small.jpg I just started taking pre-orders for my new CD and first "solo project", The Land's End Sessions . :) The album features ten tracks of irish traditional music on flute, whistle, guitar and fiddle. I don't like the idea of calling ...

Re: Nickel tubing barrel joint

I've been using material with .5mm wall thickness all the time, as most of the makers I know have. Theoretically, a wall thickness of 0 would be best, but you obviously can't get that. I have seen a plan that used .4mm thickness, but the required tubing (inside and outside) isn't available from stoc...

Re: Nickel tubing barrel joint

Hi, haven't tried metalsmith.co.uk, but their stuff looks decent. I get my nickel silver tubing from Geyer GmbH (a german company), they do just about every size you ask them for, however their minimum quantity is 5 meters if I remember correctly. Depending on how old your flute is and where it was ...

Re: Borja Baragaño - New album available

Having heard an early pre-master version that already was SO good, the finished CD must be just perfect!

Herzlichen Glückwunsch Borja! Wann sehen wir uns mal wieder? Ich brauche eine CD :)
