P.S. When I go to Southern Ireland, I get the feeling that the Irish have got it absolutley spot on. They have embraced all the benefits of the European Union and reaped the financial rewards, trade deals, etc etc, it has made the country a lot richer. However, I get the impression that they are sti...

I have a hunch that the English are voting for Europe, which I find odd. Since when is England part of Europe?!? Well, we don't really know, come on our goverment doesn't even know! If dear Tony had his way, we'd be the 51st state of the U.S.A. ! (not that there is anything wrong with that transatl...

First, if they can collect fly-tipped rubbish the next day, why, when I report the stuff myself as being outside my front door, and moreover pay a fee, does it take ten days? Second, why didn't I just dump the stuff myself in the dead of night, and then report it as fly-tipped the next day? Quicker...

Twice a day? That went out the last time the Beatles played the cavern !!! I get post once a day at lunch time if I'm lucky! Much as I moan about this country, I have to say that our local postlady hasn't changed for years. I saw her with her bicycle parked up under a tree the other day, drinking a ...

Also, a homeless person with a scabby dog on the end of a piece of string, often selling 'the big issue' (transatlantic cousins- don't even ask!) I have heard reffered to in the West Country as a 'Pickey'. Pronounced Piekey. I don't think this is very polite though, probably not very P.C. I prefer '...

Well Jellied eels are made with flavoured Gelatin ....still horrible. I just posted some 'Englishisms' in Waldons 'Lectionary'. I forgot about cars! The 'hood' in U.S. Is the 'Bonnet' over here, and the back end is a 'boot' . Whats the 'back end of a car in the states?' P.S. Your corned beef sounds ...

Well, Walden, I think that Lectionary is a very good title ! As I have been having trouble translating English into American, and American into English on this site, I would like to post a few Englishisms too, to prevent any transatlantic misunderstandings. Here are just a few to be going on with (t...

This is such sad news, what an inspirational guy. My son, daughter, and I were really upset , and my daughter quite tearful. That just goes to show how many peoples lives he touched one way and the other. I hope that his legacy will be the work that he started in his life time, to help others with s...

Jellied Eel - yup, eels in jelly. Not lime jelly, but some savoury sort. Because I am now concerned about things that translate transatlantically (if that is a word) Jelly is not Jam, Americans for Jelly think 'Jello' . Either way, Jellied Eels are disgusting. Pie and Mash is better. In our house, ...
