Hubbert: creative genius?

I decided to put these pics here in the regular forum (as opposed to the stickied thread) because . . . well, the third is one of the best uilleann pipe photos I've ever seen. I'll post pics and sonic impressions once I have the set in my hands, but Michael Hubbert's been good enough to whet my appe...

Unless the pipemaker in question didn't make the mainstock and doesn't know how his regs will fit.

I'm sure Bill knows what he's talking about vis-à-vis copyright laws and their current interpretations. Maybe it'd be better if you froze the whole project and solicited contributions of photos? You could even ask (for example) Herrn Rogge if he has pics you can post; he may give you permission to u...

The problems are enough to make at least one pipemaker require personal pickup of pipes.

well . . . come now . . . you can't really make the elephants-don't-live-there argument because neither blackwood nor ebony nor cocus trees do either . . . but trade with Africa, Asia, and even the New World predates the uilleann pipes. I think ivory is pretty easy on the eyes. Mammoth actually a li...

Do you think it's the lack of embouchure that makes UP chanter reeding so difficult? I mean, I know professional double-reed players (nearly all, if not all, of whom make their own reeds) get a few days out of a reed. They make them all the time and they can make them reliably. It seems rather commo...

Well, it's a TON of work. ;)

I realized after I posted that how much work the organization would take.

Fun to look at the pictures, though.

Yeah, it works . . . and I think it's a good idea.

But are the pics organized? If they are, I don't think I'd alphabetize by first name.

I'm not annoyed. ;) Up until very recently Turkish was classified as a Finno-Ugric language. Now, people think that the Ural-Altaic languages and Finno-Ugrics share a common ancestor, and Turkish has been shifted into Ural-Altaic. But if you google "Turkish Finno-Ugric" you'll find sources...

Well, yeah, I know that, but I didn't realize spoken Estonian was intelligible from a Finnish-speaker's perspective. The connections between Finnish-Estonian + Hungarian + Turkish aren't close enough for them to be mutually intelligible. I could get some of what the Estonian guy said, is all I'm say...

Wow, I didn't realize Estonian was sooooooooooo close to Finnish.

Anyone been to that piping festival?

That might be another way of saying, HOW ON EARTH did you find that video?

I'll chime in with my own 2¢. I've done the group thing in the form of the workshops at a short event (like the daytime ones at a 1-2 day meeting), and I think that for beginners they don't seem all that helpful, but for advanced players they can be very helpful with some caveats. I respect the comm...

Well, I am also teasing myself because they aren't in my hands yet.

And yeah, it was an upgrade . . . cha-CHING! But I'm hoping it'll pay off.

And that's not to say Michael wasn't fair about the price: he is amazing to work with.
