I started with the Doug Tipple PVC flute, which he sells on eBay. After playing it for months I moved on to a Sweetheart. I just got an M&E that I'll start playing once I feel more comfortable.

"swing"ing tunes

Is there a rule when you should and should not "swing" a tune? I've heard variations of the same song, for example "Cooley's Reel" done as straight eigth notes and in a swing (dotted eigth) style. It seems that people learn them different ways and play it according to that style....

I was going to email him as well and order one. Let us know if you reach him via email, otherwise I'll just give him a call.

I don't know if this will help, but I bought a Sony ICD-ST10 and a Sony ECM-DS70P stereo microphone from JandR.com for around $200 ($140 and $60 respectively) for recording sessions (45 minutes stereo, 5 hours mono). The whole shebang fits in a shirt pocket. The ST10 has a slowdown mode which helps ...

I'm in a similar position and considered the same flutes as you, plus I was looking at the Seery. All are excellent flutes and you couldn't go wrong with any of them. I chose to get the M&E for no particular reason other than I like the sound I've heard on recordings of people playing it. The ot...

[/lurk-mode off]

I'm planning on ordering a polymer keyless M&E Rudall in D and was wondering if someone could tell me if there are any options I should get other than the metal joint rings? Or do I even need those?

Thanks for any help or advice...
