Re: Naive Question

They're not what they seem. In the tongue of Mordor they are called Gazgûl - or Gasoline Wraiths. They are tasked by Sauron to hang around gas stations seeking to snatch the One Winning Lottery Ticket to Rule Them All from unwary customers. They're also known to be exceptionally fond of bad coffee ...

Re: Crunch time

Jim - we've had this situation happen to us before. The "panhandling" vs. "busking" depends on how your local laws are written. The way around this is to only busk on privately owned property. For instance, we often play at the local farmer's market here in town. But there are se...

Re: What was your best Halloween Prank?

Re: Visiting Northern England and the Scottish Lowlands

I just got back from a business trip to Newcastle Upon Tyne, and friends took me up the coast to Lindisfarne and Holy Island. May be a little out of the way than you were planning, but beautiful area. I know my friends bike all over the area.

Re: Google Streetview Ireland goes live

the downwards view on Google is very current for our neighborhood - within the past 4 months. But the street view is 3 years old (there's a political sign in our yard so it's easy to tell).

Re: A Science Question

long time ago, I used to run the atomic absorption instrument at work. Distilled water and deionized distilled water will pick up all kinds of things dependent on what they are stored in. And depending on what we were analyzing for, we would store the water in glass, Nalgene, or have to make sure it...

Dale - no matter what the topic, I always enjoy (maybe not agree with) reading your posts. And I hope it's ok to feel you and several others on this board are "friends" even if we've not met IRL. Do what you gotta do, but remember to stop in once in a while. And also remember, if you are e...

Re: Pulling loose tooth in the modern world

My son (the one that fixed F18 engines for four years) also was into model rockets (and radio controlled airplanes and radio controlled nitro cars). His "thing" with the rockets was to see just how BIG of a payload he could fit into one.

We also lost a lot of rockets.......

Newcastle - Sept 14 - 16, 2010

I'm going to be going "across the pond" to Newcastle UK for a conference being held Sept 14 - 16. I'd love to tack on a few days either the week before or after (preferably after) and do some sights and meet up with some people. Being the typical "dumb American" I have no idea if...
