Re: Notable Box Music of 2008

The new cd by Beoga, "The Incident," is definitely on my best-of list.

Re: More Bacon Recipe

(DJM is a stoopid fat hobbit... :P ) Nobody has suggested deep-frying that sucker in batter... wimps? Seriously. Watch the chicken-fried bacon video. I also once had tempura bacon as a garnish with fois gras at Tenh Penh here in DC. Yum, by god. I'm more interested in dwest's cocktail recipe than I...

Re: Christmas Goose

BTW, as for actually cooking the bird, I've used the recipe in Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything , and it works great: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prick the goose's skin all over with a sharp fork or the tip of a knife, being careful not to poke into the meat (this is to let the fat render out ...

YES. Do that. A goose is a yummy thing, but if you've never had potatoes fried in goose fat, you've never really eaten.

Re: mandolin - take your pick

I used Dunlop nylon 1 mm on mando for ages and they're still the most comforable to me. However I like the tone I get with Dunlop JD 204 much better. These are small, thick, round-pointed picks. My triplets really pop with them. The .80 gauge white Clayton picks are great too. I don't see any advant...

Today it's "Freedom" by George Michael. No idea where the hell THAT came from. All we have to do Is take these lies And make them true All we have to seeeeeeee, Is I don't belong to you, And you don't belong to me.... Previous earworms have included "Bawitaba" by Kid Rock (Bawitd...

Sorry! I've been meaning to respond to your post for ages now. Here's what I've got. Bear in mind that Dervish tune a half-step sharp usually, so put a capo on your first fret before playing with the cd. Carbonnades à la Flamande: a Flemish beef stew with beer and onions. Nothing like it for fending off the icy fang and churlish chiding of the winter's wind. My recipe is mostly from Julia Child. Cut 3 1/2 pounds of chuck roast into reasonable-sized hunks, thinly slice two big onions, and mince 5 gar...

It's highly likely you'll find street parking around there, if not along 17th then further west along Pennsylvania, especially if you're getting there early enough to load in and sound check and all that. The garage will certainly work in a pinch. What's the gig? Is it open to the public? Want to co...

The Sansa mp3 player charges with any USB port on your computer. However, whenever the internal rechargeable battery wears out, you are supposed to chuck the device and buy another one, as the battery is not replaceable. Is yours one of the e200 series? I've got a Sansa e260 (a $35 refurb from Buy....

I used to be a pretty good juggler. A girlfriend I had in college taught me; we had a whole repertoire of partner tricks. Totally dysfunctional relationship, but man, we were the life of every party.

An F# diminished, right? Just so we don't stray into any heretical chromaticism.
