Thanks for the input, especially the link for the sound clips, and the notion of not necessarily needing a tunable model. Makes sense, and part of me getting a tunable was based on the idea that the whistle would necessarily go out of tune. Anyhow, I'll check out the nontunable models as well, and p...

Low D question: Overton or Cillian O' Briain?
Well, I'm looking at spending more on a Low D. I went to Clips and Snips and heard various low whistles. The one that pulled at me the most was the Overton. Great smooth sound, not too reedy. Of course, the whistler made all the difference with her accompished playing. The only problem is that the o...

How mellow is Waltons Mellow D?
Saw this whistle on the Whistle Shop website. It's a high D whistle, but with a slightly wider bore, so it gives a more mellow sound than your typical high D whistle. Has anyone had any experience with this whistle? Would it be a good alternative to a Low D whistle, since it is more mellow? ("s...

What key is best for Irish traditional whistle?
If one wanted to have just one whistle to play Irish traditional music in, what key would you want it to be in? I have a standard D, and want to upgrade, but not sure if I should stick with D, or try another key instead. I've heard that A is very nice. The main thing is wanting to play Irish traditi...

Dangers of aluminium instruments?
So many whistles are made of aluminium-is that a potential danger? There were studies in the past about possible connections with aluminium intake and alzheimers, but I don't think anything was proven about that.

Feedback on Howard Low D?
I just bought a Howard Low D, and was very disapointed in the way it sounded. This was even in the notes that it was easy to play, so I don't think it was just my being a raw beginner with low whistles. I read a review on them, and the sound was called "reedy". I would say that it sounded,...

Thanks for the feedback-I was actually thinking of just letting the drones alone for a while, and only focusing on the chanter. Just having them to begin with seems like it would be an advantage in some ways. Of course, adding that to my order may prolong the order more than it would be worth, in wh...
