How important is B flat key?

I've decided to get all the keys on my set-to-be, but the maker said that the B flat key position can compromise the placement of the F natural key--in terms of ease of using the F key. The F key has to be moved further forward if the B key is added, and this makes for a less comfortable playing pos...

I'm a pre-beginner myself, since I'm on the waiting list to have a set of pipes made. I have done some research, including reading this board, and you can do two things that would probably be helpful. First, find a tutor if you can. Not sure where you are, but there might be someone nearby who gives...

Should I get a G-sharp key?

I'm in the process of getting a half set made. Well, I should say that it hasn't been started yet, but I'm on the waiting list. At any rate, I'm getting C natural and F natural keys, but I'm undecided about whether I should also get G-sharp. I'll be a complete beginner (yes, decided to go for the ha...

I bought one of Jerry's tweaked Shaws, and really like it. Not ready to give up my Clarke yet, though. It has a certain sweetness and smoothness that I've gotten to like, as well as being a fairly quiet whistle. I tried a Generation, but after the Clarke couldn't get used to the pops and squeaks. Mi...

Yes, I thought that getting another one might be the answer--and just hope that it sounds as good as this one, given the manufacturing variability in whistles. I also have a Shaw that I haven't started playing much yet, but imagine it will meet the same fate? So much for leaving my whistles in my wi...

Much obliged for the information! Quite a range of colors available, although didn't see the specific color I was interested in, so will check with fabric upholstery shops. I'll pass the water buffalo hide idea on to the maker and see what he thinks. I'd rather have a non-synthetic anyway, if possib...

supplier for ultra suede?

I'm in the process of having a half set made, and the maker pads the bellows with ultra suede. I'd like to get it in a different color than what is usually offered. Does anyone know of someone that carries ultra suede? thanks, Baen

Whistle swabs?

I have a Clarke Original D, and despite blowing through it and shaking the moisture out, it's starting to develop rust in the seam area. Are there whistle swabs made to help dry it out when I'm doing playing? Or can one make an effective but simple swab? thanks, Baen

How do you tune an Overton tunable Low D?

I just got an Overton tunable Low D from Song of the Sea, and just opened it last night. Beautiful whistle! Truly a work of art. One question I had was how do I tune the whistle? From the photos of the Overtons in The Low Whistle book, it looked like there was an outer sleeve on the whistle, but the...

What kind of soap to use for coating windway?

I just got a Burke Brass all pro, and it suggested using detergent to cut down on the clogging of the windway. Does anyone have suggestions of what type of soap to use? The kind I use for dishes has a lemon scent, and so may also be somewhat acidic. Is something extremely basic like Ivory the best b...

And what was Dancing used to express?? Perhaps using the word "joyous" is not the best word, but they sure weren't just shaking their groove thang...Dance is expression, as music is expression. We can ask "expression of what?" I would think that some of that expression would incl...

I wanted to thank everyone for their great input! I weighed the options, and looked at the issue backwards and forwards, and from every angle, and then decided to go with an Overton Low D. I tried to find a nontunable, but no go. Brigitte said that ordering through them might take up to 25 weeks. Bu...
