You might also do research on Kerry low Ds. I got one as part of a "Low whistle package" from thewhistleshop.com. They're only a little more expensive than a Susato. (I bought a Susato soprano D at the same time. Very nice!) I still consider myself a newbie to whistles but I've had my Kerr...

One day, the 'inspiration' just hit me to come up with "King Toot"...err, maybe it something from a flock of geese heading south. I'll get back to you on that. Now I wish I'da thought of King Toot before I joined the list. Woulda' made a great member name. Oh well... Bloomfield gets my vot...

"For those with faith, no explanation is necessary. For those without faith, no explanation is possible." For an all too short time*, I was a step-father to a small boy who has a total of ~20 mental & physical things wrong with him. Doctors of physical medicine told us they don't know ...

What is it about the mouthblown practice chanters that UP pipers don't like? Is it a completely different experience from what 'real' UP are like (such that it effectively 'ruins/spoils' playing)?

...don't forget Joanie Madden! If you're a whistle fan, "Songs of the Irish Whistle" #1 (the best selling whistle CD of all time) is a must have BUT there are a few non-trad tunes on it. The recently released #2 CD has received fine reviews. (I don't have it...yet.)

Whistle pouch/case?

Greetings all, What's the general consensus on "what" to carry your whistles in? I've got a 22.5" Low D and a couple soprano Ds...uh, "so far" of course. I've seen the whistle bags at tuffbaggs.com but they're waaaay too short for a Low D. I'd prefer a soft case but if a har...

For Mac users, there's a piece of shareware for OS X called "Transcribe!" http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audio/transcribe.html Looks very promising. I've found a few variations in scores for favorite trad' tunes but rarely find what I expect to hear. With this program, it looks like...

-Zubivka: "I see that Brother Steve's website has a suggestion for the D' which might infuriate the purists but, at this point, I just want to get through it." What suggestion? He suggested that you simply keep the top hole covered, rather than open it. That way, you're spending less time ...

B D'-B D'-B G???

WiseWhistlers, I'm a newbie to the tin whistle but chugging very well through a Bill Ochs cassette/book combo. I'm trying to learn "Amazing Grace" which is going well except for the words (first verse) "I once was lost" where the notes are B D'-B D'-B G. I see that Brother Steve'...
