Re: Modern "Series" Sources for ITM - any Recommendations?
The Foinn Seisiun collection is one I like to recommend mostly because you can get matching recordings of them. Depending on what stage of learning you're in, a book of written tunes won't do anything for your playing if you're not hearing the music played well.

Re: Johnny Doran- NPU remastered CD?
The NPU store had "The Bunch of Keys" for awhile but I haven't seen it recently. This might be the album you're thinking of.

Re: Stuck Generation whistle head
I've done the cold to hot water trick in combination with the "Madden" technique on more stubborn whistles. Gen C's are the worst as the head and body are not matched very well. When you do get the head off you might try giving the top of the tube a sanding job so that the head doesn't cra...

Re: Mouthpiece Molds
I suspect the company is more concerned with selling cheap toys to children and tourists than turning out quality musical instruments to be sold to a pretty small demogrpahic of folks who take them seriously.

Re: Improving, but seeking advice
I wasnt specifically going for a jig I guess. To be honest I wasnt even paying attention to what time signature I was composing in at first. I listen to alot of both traditional and experimental celtic music I guess. I was only trying to address your question: I just uploaded a short video of a lit...

Re: Improving, but seeking advice
Another question though. Is it of significant which fingers you use to perform cuts? For example: When I do a cut on a E note, I usually very briefly lift the finger covering T3. I gave your YouTube video a listen and your tune, while in 6/8, is missing an understanding/familiarity with Irish music...

Re: tuning a non-tunable whistle
Unfortunately, whether your whistles are out of tune, or out of tune with themselves, there isn't a lot you can do to easily fix that since they are one piece (no removable head). If you want a solution to your problem that won't cost you much you can pick up a few Generations or Feadog brand whistl...

Re: Uilleann pipe tool kit
Several mentions of electrical tape. That stuff has proven to be a nightmare for me both on whistles and pipes. It may be due to my warmer climate (though it's not like I leave my instruments out in the heat) but what almost always ends up happening is the tape will slide around when warmed (especia...

I really should stop. He was a nice fella and I don't want to be too hard on him... especially if he lurks about the boards.

Re: No whistle Youtube thread? Well then!
Interesting note: we had a fellow pass through our state a few weeks back giving concerts/workshops on flute and whistle and upon trying my whistle he told me "you've got to get rid of that Generation body, their tuning is horrible." :really: Did this particular fellow understand the diff...

Re: No whistle Youtube thread? Well then!
I asked because the sound was very familiar. I have found that combination to be my favorite whistle/body swap I've tried to date (the whistle I play most is my O'Briain Feadog head on a nickel Gen body). Something about the generation tube gives a great tone to the Feadog heads, I think. I don't kn...
